The Certified Surgical Technician is an Allied health professional, who under the direction of the surgeon and the Operating Room Circulating RN is responsible for maintaining and providing sterile supplies, assisting with surgical procedures by maintaining a sterile field, assisting surgeons and surgical nurses in preparing for and performing surgeries, helping prep patients, ensuring patient safety is a priority, passing surgical tools and supplies to the surgeon (or assist...ant) during the operation and other duties as needed. The Surgical technologists is an expert in the theory and application of the principles of asepsis and sterile technique and has a knowledge of human anatomy, surgical procedures, and the implementation of tools and technologies to assist a physician during procedures. Today DOH announced that it has aligned its COVID-19 quarantine guidance for fully vaccinated individuals with that of the CDC. They are fully vaccinated (i.e...., more than two weeks following receipt of the second dose in a two-dose series, or of one dose of a single-dose vaccine); They are within three months following receipt of the last dose in the series; and They have remained asymptomatic since the current COVID-19 exposure. Beginning today, February 25, 2021, FCMC will permit (1) support person per patient to : hospital, outpatient, surgical, ER and physician services. Covid positive patients in the hospital will not be able to have visitors. Restrictions are still in place in the Nursing Home.

FCMC was affected by the Moderna vaccine shortage last week, receiving only 100 of the 300 doses we ordered, forcing us to limit the number of vaccines we could administer Friday, February 19. We have been very cautious to reserve enough doses to ensure there is a second dose available for everyone that received the first dose. As a result, we may need to cancel more initial doses this week as well. If you have a scheduled vaccine this week you will be getting a phone call from FCMC to confirm or cancel.
