Is there that much difference in the quality of paint? High Quality vs. Low Quality High-quality paint -- has more total solids (pigments plus resins) and fewer solvents than lower-quality paint. So, while the two may go on with the same thickness, when the solvents evaporate, a high-quality paint leaves a thicker, tougher paint film.... Low-quality paint -- has fewer solids and more solvents. Once the solvents evaporate, the thinner paint film left behind is less durable and does not cover as well. You will spend more time and money repainting to achieve the performance of a high-quality paint. High-quality paint-- has better pigments, so it hides better -- The pigments in the high-quality paint on the left are smaller and purer, so they do a better job of filling in and blocking the color of the surface they’re applied over. High-quality paint-- has better resins, so it sticks better and lasts longer -- The resins in the high-quality paint are smaller and better able to cling to each other and penetrate the surface they are applied to. This means a stronger, longer-lasting paint film. Fisher Painting uses the highest quality of products to produce a result that cannot be matched. How often should you paint? Painting your barn, home, or commercial property is a good investment that extends the integrity and good looks of your property. Making sure your property has a fresh coat of paint is your property’s first defense against the elements, not to mention it is the first thing most guest and neighbors notice. Here are a few simple signs that will let you know your barn, home or commercial property needs a fresh coat of paint. 1. Fading paint The dark...er hues tend to fade faster than paler shades. On the exterior of your property sun bleaching is quite common. Keep in mind fading on shady sides of the building might indicate a problem with either the vapor barrier, with water intrusion, or quite possibly both. Faded and mysterious stains might also be a indication of a water leak. 2. Flaking, bubbling or cracking paint There can be many reasons for these signs of wear such as, strong sunlight, extreme humidity, harsh winters, violent storms, blowing sand and ocean breezes. A bigger concern with these signs of wear are that they often a sign of dry rot, wet rot, and or mold. 3. Because the paint color morphed The last time you painted did you use a quality paint that can withstand UV rays, if not, UV rays can make your paint fade and at times transform to a very undesirable color. 4. If your house is new a new home builder will most likely use the most cost-effective paint and provide only one coat. This paint is not the best protective layer of paint and you will want to upgrade to allow better protection of your investment as soon as you can. 5. Hardened caulk Caulk is designed to expand and contract with the weather cycles. Over the years as caulk is exposed to extreme weather cycles it begins to lose its elasticity. If your caulk is hard and resistant when you push down on it, then it is time to replace caulk and paint. 6. Before paint chips or peels if you are noticing wear on your paint it is best to nip it in the bud an begin painting before you see signs of chipping and peeling. This will eliminate the damage resulted from chipping or peeling paint and it will also minimize the need for preparatory work, which will hold cost down. Overall keep in mind that most properties need to be painted every 7 to 10 years however, this is only a guideline as the area you live in will affect how your paint holds up, for example, do you live in area that has serve weather year round, do you have direct sunlight all day, do you live near the ocean, these and many other factors must be taken into consideration on how often you will need to apply a fresh coat of paint on your property. Fisher Painting is ready to take care of all your painting needs. Please give us a call at 717.687.8600
