Mental health issues and domestic violence go hand-in-hand. Domestic Violence Awareness Month raises attention and supports victims across all ages, genders, ethnic and socioeconomic backgrounds. In fact, victims of intimate partner violence are at increased risk for suffering serious physical and mental health problems that continue for years after the abuse has ended. More than one in three women and one in four men in the United States have experienced, rape, physical viol...ence and/or stalking by an intimate partner in their lifetime (Black et al.,2011). Women with disabilities have a 40 percent greater risk of intimate partner violence, especially severe violence, than women without disabilities. We join other advocates such as health care providers, business leaders, policy makers, faith-based groups, college students and many others to denounce violence of any kind. If you are a victim of abuse or violence at the hands of someone you know or love, or you are recovering from an assault by a stranger, you are not alone. Get immediate help and support.
