Bakery News: We are open for our regular hours all this week and next week. Yes, we will be open Christmas Day 8 to 2 for pickups, but we will be running deliveries earlier, beginning at 9am, and just to three zip codes: 19143, 19104, and 19139; so deliveries orders will close at 9am. And we will be stocking Challah on 12/25. FYI: Mariposa will be closed 12/25. If you anticipate a big order ($50+ in baked goods) for Christmas Day (or even the day before), let me know so... I can make sure we have enough stock for you and I can reserve that order for you far in advance; you can just reply to this email to reach me. Au Fournil will be baking and delivering on 12/25, so we can accommodate any size order for their goods or FWB stuff if you let me know what you want. As always, we will restock the store at 2pm each day for the next day's pickup/deliveries; the it's always better for you to order the day before for best selections. New Items: We are now stocking some new items including pumpkin seeds, maple syrup, almond flour. Things are constantly changing so look back to the online store often. We sent a load of croissant, pastry and bagels to the USPS Kingsessing branch (for 40 people) and to Firehouse Bicycles/Wolf Cycles (6 staff; 1 shop was looted with big losses). The postal workers are super stressed in the words of the branch manager: "Most of my employees have been working an average of 12 hours daily 6-7 days a week. This is a great way to show them just how much we value their hard work. We couldn't get the job done without them." While these were spec...ial deliveries, we actually send out daily donations to those who can use a boost, thanks to donations made by FWB customers; we have an item in our online store where customers donate. We have been doing this for nearly 15 years. Why do this? While it obviously helps those who receive the goods, for the giver it's the best antidote to the barrage of anxiety we experience on a constant basis. Watch what happens to the anxiety, fear and anger when you offer something to another person, even just a kind word or a listening ear. It also adds meaning to our work; knowing our baking and distribution efforts are making a positive impact. All around it's a circle of compassion and positive exchange that our community desperately needs right now. It really makes a difference when our work is appreciated.
