BEWARE OF FAKE AMAZON CALLERS The Abington Township Police Department has been alerted by numerous residents that callers falsely representing Amazon.com are tr...ying to get customers to give out personal and financial information. Many of these calls are coming from spoofed numbers. Spoofing is when an app or program is used by a scammer to change the number or name they are calling from to something else. For example they can even make it look like the call is coming from Abington Police Chief Pat Molloy or Lt. Steven Fink!!!! (Who we assure you would not call and ask for your personal information) The following tips can help you avoid being a victim: Be skeptical of unsolicited calls: If you are not sure that the caller is really from Amazon, hang up. Amazon or any other legitimate business will never ask you to disclose or verify sensitive personal information, offer a refund you’re not expecting or ask for remote access to your device. Ignore unsolicited messages asking for your personal Information: Amazon will never send you an unsolicited message asking for sensitive personal information, such as your social insurance number, bank account or credit card details. Ignore calls for immediate action: Scammers try to get you to act without thinking by creating a sense of urgency. Beware of unusual payment methods: Amazon will never ask you to make a payment outside of their website. Requests to pay via wire transfer, pre-paid debit card and cryptocurrency are almost always a sign of fraud. In addition to providing our community with great products and service, we regularly volunteer our time in service to others. On Monday, December 7, 2020, we helped to promote the Holy Ghost Prep Fathers Association Christmas Blessings Program which connects the HGP community with local parish families who could use a little extra help especially during the Christmas season. This year is particularly challenging for a number of reasons yet the HGP moms attending the Holy Ghost Prep Mothers Guild Christmas event tonight responded with generosity and cheerfulness by stepping up to adopt several families from the list of 55. The main event was held outside and only a few people were permitted indoors at one time to shop or pick up pre-ordered items.
