I really struggled out of respect to the deceased with posting these name burial markers but realize that hopefully by doing so, a family member may discover wh...ere a loved one is resting. No bodies, only burial markers, all found in close proximity in a wooded grown over, hilly area facing Kelker St. Their lives will be honored, forgotten no more and names always spoken by me. Baby Girl Mitchell. Baby boy Penn. Doris Mae Clark. Ignored no more. See more
What a wonderful day at Midland. Great volunteers from Keller/Williams International and my dear Friends of Midland members...Lynette Lopatic and Katie, full of energy and quick to pitch in. Near the end of the day several markers were found with names. Yeah!!
Please take a moment to view this presentation. Local, National history. I was one of the presenters as a Pa History Detective. Hope you enjoy it. This connects to our monument that was unveiled last year.
Locust Hill Cemetery and Museum clean up day bought our community together for a good cause. About 60 people showed up. Mike McCormick of the Kiwanis, Boy Scout...s from Trenton and Lawrence, Coreen Groomes with the Top Ladies of Distinction and Top Teens, Chuck Monroe and Leon Brooks of the 6th Regiment United States Colored Troops and most importantly our neighbors, like Gwen Grier and Kathy Mae working through the East Trenton Collaborative with Shereyl Snider, Tony Mendia and Kurt Lutima. Of course Taiwanda Terry-Wilson came in support like she always does. LA Parker of the Trentonian came by as did Mercer County Commissioner Sam Frisby with Theodore his Eagle Scout son. Col. Elizabeth Yull of the Trenton Historical Society helped us too. Kimberly Porter of the City of Trenton graciously gave us the supplies of gloves, rakes, shovels and bags. We did an impressive amount of work . It was a good day. Our ancestors would be proud. See more
My neighbor Tommy, shared a bit of his family history with me yesterday. His grandfather Nikola Petek, died 100 years ago yesterday at the age of 32. His funeral was held at the St Mary’s Catholic Church, which was for the Croatians at the time March 30, 1921. He also shared a picture of his grandfather working at the Phoenix Iron and Steel near Cameron Street. Another picture he brought over was of the wedding of Tom Benkovic marriage to Anna in 1905. People save your history by sharing pictures and stories. Steelton is full of great stories.
I have had the pleasure of doing the voice over for Ida B. Wells. You will find her at the year of 1862. Check it out. This entire "Road to the Vote" is full of great history.
Thanks to everyone who participated. The team did awesome.
Honoring a Midland veteran, Sam Cole, the beginning. https://issuu.com/pressandjournal/docs/a02_17_16_complete/3
We did it...yeah. Stop by and visit this beautiful site. I pray that all the children that were blessed to attend the Hygienic School for Colored Children are remembered.
Happening tomorrow. Check it out
Last Saturday we did a special search for headstone that may still be underground. With the help of Mark Baddorf and Dave Hoerner using their metal detectors they located several. Yes, it was a rainy mist most of the morning but we worked anyway. The volunteers Jermaine Shelton, Joelene Beasley Erby, her daughter Joyce, Sharon David Harris, Shamaine, Steve Mull and George Scott. Everyone left dirty, a little muddy but hopefully happy. They also found some neat items for our little museum. Thank you to everyone for your help.
God has answered another prayer. Thank you to everyone past and present for their support of the Friends of Midland. We could not have accomplished this without you. https://www.pennlive.com//midland-cemetery-home-to-graves- We come this far by faith and still need Volunteers to continue with the mission of restoration and preservation. Blessings
Happy blessed Father's Day to past and present daddy's. Create wonderful memories that will be shared for years to come.
