Apart from a sportsman's firearm, their hunting knife is an essential item to carry while on the hunt. A dull blade in the field can not only be frustrating, but also dangerous. Every hunting knife needs servicing after the season. I know for a fact this Case xx 316-5 was put to good use this year. This is how Gear gets hunting knives ready for action again. 1) Inspection - looking for any damage or defects 2) Setting the bevel angle - the blade is placed in the Tormek T8 kn...ife jig and the bevel angle is set to match the factory setting. Most hunting knife bevels are set at 25- 30 degrees. 3) Sharpening - multiple passes over the 220 grit T8 water-cooled stone set the bevel along the entire edge of the blade. Then, the stone is graded to 1000 grit and sharpening continues until a burr is produced. 4) Honing - the Tormek T8's leather honing wheel is used to remove the burr and produce a mirror finish. After which, every hunting knife is hand honed on a leather strop. This final action further refines the razor edge. 5) Cleaning - with warm water and soap to remove any dirt or debris from the sharpening process 6) Oiling - the blade is given a coat of high-quality food grade tsubaki knife maintenance oil. This is the traditional oil used in Japanese knife making. 7) Returned to the customer wicked sharp and ready for the next adventure! If your trusty hunting knife is in need of some TLC, call or text to set up a sharpening appointment.
