Steckel Elementary School

On March 12th, 2020 Steckel was supposed to have our third annual family bingo night. Unfortunately, this event wasn’t able to happen due to COVID. Proceeds were going to go to the patients at Lehigh Valley Reilly Children’s Hosptial, John and Dorothy Morgan Cancer Center, and the Cancer Center at Lehigh Valley Hospital-Muhlenberg. While we were not able to have the bingo night, that didn’t stop us from finding a way to still donate. With all the very generous gift cards an...d baskets donated back in the spring, we had a basket raffle amongst our staff at school last month. With the generosity of the AMAZING staff here at Steckel, and with the help of some local businesses and community members, we were able to donated hundreds and hundreds of gifts to the children at the hospital, along with adult patients receiving treatment at the infusion centers at Lehigh Valley! #steckelstars #WeAreBetterTogether See more

Good Evening Steckel Families, Please be aware that parent teacher conferences will be held a little differently this year. Students will NOT be attending school in person on the typical half days. November 23rd, 24th, and 25th will all be learning at home asynchronous days for elementary students. These days will be structured as the typical online Wednesday learning days for our Steckel students. On the 23rd, 24th, and 25th, teachers will be holding virtual parent tea...cher conferences via Zoom. Your child’s teacher will reach out to you in the near future to schedule your conference. Good Afternoon. The purpose of this post is to remind our Steckel parents and guardians that we are now offering the option to take part in the Steckel Elementary Voluntary Tech Fee that is available on MySchoolBucks.com The voluntary technology fee has been set at $15 per student. The fee will cover the cost of the first accidental damage to repair the Chromebook. All students in grades K-5 are asked to pay a $15.00 annual fee. The technology fee may be paid online using My...SchoolBucks.com or by making a cash payment in the Main Office. Families who opt-out of the technology fee will be responsible for the costs of repair or replacement for any damage incurred. If the technology fee is paid the first accident requiring a repair will be covered. The second accident during the same year may result in a charge of $50 or the cost of the repair. The third accident requiring repair may result in the entire cost of the repair to be charged to the student. If the technology fee is not paid, the non-warranty repair cost will be assumed by the student. For any damage determined to be misuse, horseplay, neglect, intentional damage, or lost/stolen device, the cost is the actual cost of repair or replacement of the device, currently $259 as of 8/15/2020. If a power adapter is damaged or lost, the parent/student is responsible for the full cost of replacement, currently $44 for the adapter. Hello school families! I hope you are safe and well. We have all needed to think and act in new ways during this COVID-19 pandemic. I am happy to tell you that our friends at Lehigh Valley Reilly Children’s Hospital and Art Spark have figured out how to offer the Community Canvas program to our students in a virtual format, and we invite you to participate. Community Canvas assemblies were held earlier this year when school was still in session. At the end of the assembly ei...ght students were selected to participate in the school’s art competition. Several of these competitions took place, but eight were cancelled when schools were closed. The students from these eight schools have created their art at home. Now all of the submitted art will be available online for voting by YOU, our school community. Anyone is eligible to vote in any school’s competition, so be sure to tell your friends and family members as well. Voting is open for these schools this Wednesday through Friday, May 13-15: Central Elementary Hanover Elementary Mosser Elementary Asa Packer Elementary Ritter Elementary Sheridan Elementary Steckel Elementary Zephyr Elementary The works of art with the most votes will move on to the Grand Finale. The finale is still set for June 6, understanding that we need to be flexible and it could be rescheduled. Artwork from all school competitions that have not been voted into the finale will be entered into a contest for remaining wildcard slots. (This includes artwork from competitions that took place before schools were closed.) Wildcard voting will take place May 19-21, with winners announced May 22. Here is where you vote: LVHN.org/canvas Winners of the school competitions will be announced on Monday, May 18 at noon. Winners of the wildcard slots will be announced on Friday, May 22 at noon. I hope you take a few minutes to view the artwork of your fellow students and vote for your favorites. To help get you in an artsy mood, I have included some coloring pages created by Reilly Children’s Hospital. And to get you thinking about healthy food, I have included a recipe from our friends at the Kellyn Foundation, our other Community Canvas partner. I am excited to see what all the students create!
