A Honolulu native, Carissa Kainani Moore is a four-time women’s world champion in surfing (2011, ’13, 15 and ’19). When she won her first world title at 18 in 2011, she became the youngest winner, male or female, in the history of the sport. In 2014, at just 21, Moore was inducted into the Surfers’ Hall of Fame, where she was credited with revolutionizing women’s surfing. Moore’s father, Chris, taught her how to surf at Waikiki Beach in Honolulu when she was only 5. Smitten..., she soon began racking up surfing titles as an amateur before turning pro in 2008. At 16, she became the youngest-ever winner in the prestigious Triple Crown of Surfing. With the help of her foundation, Moore Aloha, she’s committed to empowering the next generation of young female surfers to be strong confident and compassionate individuals. She aspires, through surf camps and other initiatives, to create an environment where girls feel free to be themselves, chase their dreams and are encouraged to make a difference in the world around them. In 2021, Moore will represent the United States at the Tokyo Olympics, the first time surfing has been featured as an Olympic sport. She’s a heavy favorite to medal. https://www.carissamoore.com/

On April 8, 1993, Ellen Ochoa became the first Hispanic woman in the world to go into space aboard the Discovery shuttle. She spent nine days surveying the Earth’s ozone layer and solar activity. Since that mission, she’s made three additional trips into space. In 2013, she accomplished another major feat by becoming the first Hispanic director, and second female director, of the Johnson Space Center in Houston. https://www.nasa.gov//jo/about/people/orgs/bios/ochoa.html
