Junior Beautification Team was out adorning the playground today. Grass/green area has been liberated and new shrub bed planted. More to come...! Thanks to the hardy crew that showed up for Love Your Park Day.
Did I forget to mention free T-shirts for volunteers?! Hard working park people handing out supplies. Sign up here if you can make it. https://www.givepulse.com/event/228485
Come on out and help us liberate the lawn this Saturday the 8th from 10-12 noon! If you haven't signed up for Love Your Park you can when you show up. We will also be planting the new shrub bed and doing clean up in general.
Thank you to all of our helpers at yesterday’s ribbon cutting!
Tree work! Please be alert and stay safe!
Giant scissors on site, come on out to the park!
Men with rakes! Hopefully we'll have grass for the summer. Thanks Matt, Derik, Daniel and Rodney for pitching in. Oh, and Avery too.
Honing skills for the future; 5 card stud under slide, truck drivers manual and vending practice. (candy shop)
Good time in Gold Star Park yesterday, lots of seeding going on! Thanks Parks & Rec and volunteers large and small. Thanks Bonnie for the great photos.
What a fun day yesterday, we raked, seeded and fenced in the lawn so that we have some grass to sit on this summer! Thanks all of the neighbors who came out to help or just jumped in and thanks to Parks & Rec's John Smeltzer for facilitating this.
Hey friends who helped this morning, Thanks. We have the fence up but need to do a bit more raking and distributing the grass seed. That's the fun part so if you come to the park bring your beach pails! We are taking a break and will restart for a bit of work at 4 p.m. Rain tomorrow is not fun but good for grass. We hope to have a lawn for late spring/summer.
Hey Friends of Gold Star, the compost and grass seed have arrived, thanks Dartay and John Smeltzer of Parks & Rec. Come on out to rake. We will pull rakes out of shed and once the soil is spread we can put down seed. Come out now, at noon or after work till it's done! Thanks.
Happy New Year from Gold Star Park!
What a year it has been for Gold Star on top of a Pandemic. Here's a lovely essay written by a park friend and volunteer. Happy New Year to all Gold Star friends!
Parents we need your help! Please make sure that your kids know not to play with the shed or the electric panel. They’ve both already been damaged and repaired. Thanks!
Hey friends of Gold Star, Anne and I will be in the park till 10:30 this morning doing some cleanup if you'd like to join us!
Classic snowman in Gold Star down to his nose!
Hey friends, Our clean up is this Saturday, Dec. 12th from 9-11. Join us if you can and help keep our park a nice place to be!
Due to rain forecast for tomorrow our monthly cleanup date is Dec. 12th, 9-11. Thanks all. Our park is really a happy place now.
From the first community meeting on the remodel, one of the things that people in the community value most about Gold Star Park is its multi-use character. That principle guided the design, which balances a larger playground and dog free grassy space for kids with a large field for games, plaza for bands and events, a picnic area, and walking areas for dogs. We've increased seating and lighting, added electricity and water, and even created a "tricycle track" within the park.... There's a lot packed into our small space. The design is the product of several meetings where the community provided input and then voted on the overall design and the playground equipment, and a great deal of work by the steering committee, park stewardship team, and the design team. Thank you to Councilman Squilla, Philadelphia Parks and Recreation and Fairmount Park Conservancy for their support throughout this process. And, thank you to the Passyunk Square Civic Association which has provided critical support to our fundraising efforts. We currently expect construction to be complete by early to mid October.
Hey Gold Star Neighbors, we will have a cleanup on the 1st Saturday of each month until April. Join us this Saturday Dec. 5th between 9 -11 a.m. Wear masks and gloves please! Thanks, The Friends of Gold Star Park
Coming into the home stretch. Lights, shed and a bit bit more grass seeding to be done.

Breaking News - the ribbon cutting for Gold Star Park is scheduled for November 12th!
Thanks to all who came out to participate in Love Your Park Day and to those who came out to play in our upgraded version of Gold Star Park!
Heidi the little camel was in town today shooting an ad. I couldn't catch her before she got into her trailer but you can visit her and her friends in Berwyn, a fun family outing!
Cat has been missing (red collar, name Rose Red). She hangs out by the corner of Wharton and Sheridan. If anyone saw her, please ping Nick Gluzdov.
Small but enthusiastic turnout for our cleanup, sorry about the short notice. Welcome new Friends of Gold Star Mark and Julia who did 2 sides of park in record time. The Murrays of course came out in force!
Hey neighbors, We are having our first monthly cleanup tomorrow. The perimeter of Gold Star is getting yucky and if you can come out please bring gloves. Bags & tools provided. 10-12 noon. Love Your Park Day is November 14th. Thank You!
Bouncy surface is done, roses are gone and Gold Star is shaping up!
Gold Star tree owners on Wharton Street, one of our neighbors saw Spotted Lantern Flies on the street trees. This is what they look like. The nymphs can be trapped climbing the trunk if you put sticky tape about 3 feet up. It's available at most home supply stores.
Bouncy surface has been laid down and things are moving along. The medium needs two days to set so resist temptation! We've waited this long so we can wait a bit more. Fun times later this fall.
Progress in Gold Star Park, the blacktop is going down and next week the rubber surface under playground equipment!
The word from the city is that we are looking at several more weeks of construction before the park will be complete. Still to do: safety surface, lighting, security cameras, benches, shed. It's going to be amazing when everything is done!
Hey Gold Star neighbors. There is a friendly female cat wearing a flea collar hanging around the north side of Park on Manton Street. Please share with your friends in case anyone is missing their feline. Thanks.
Tonight at 6:30! Register now to participate in the Building a Better Park Zoom Call
