Gravel Run Farms

Spring evenings on the farm. We're enjoying the fruits of our labor from last fall, when we finished excavating the property, raking rocks & planting grass, and digging out the pond one last time. Loving the clean look to the water, and the flock is pleased to be free from the coop to drink from it as they please. The top soil mound is drying out nicely and will be perfect for the garden. We have more soil than needed, so if you're interested in buying some, give us a shout. Hoping that each of you enjoys this beautiful time of year when the earth comes alive with sound and activity again.

Anyone else ready for spring?

With the turning of the calendar, we've made some operational changes to the Farm to give our high school senior some additional responsibility. The pandemic has been tough for teens as they crave independence and growth. Our daughter will continue her duties in flock care, and we've added supply management and bulk order sales to her list. I guess you could say she's the General Manager at this point. Kelly still does the tracking & finances, and Jasen still does larger repairs to coop as needed. Otherwise, it's her show. Congratulations Grace. Keep up the great work!

One of our favorite things about farming is the barter system. Trading goods is a great way to not only support each other, but also feel a sense of community. After the bulk order and individual sales for the week, our leftover eggs (when we have them) are sold by our neighbors’ farm, 86 Acres. This morning when i dropped off eggs, i picked up some of their raw milk and a new product... plain greek yogurt. . The yogurt is a product of a partnership between 86 Acres and Dodo Yogurt. It is being sold at Edinboro Market, and at 86 Acres. Cant wait to try it!
