The students of Abington Friends School are hosting an Ecofest this Saturday May 1 at the Abington Friends School Upper School Parking Area at 5757 Washington Lane, Jenkintown, PA Farm at AFS Plant Sale... Come support the fantastic FarmEx cohort, and 5th and 8th grade gardening clubs by purchasing various greens, herbs, vegetable starter plants and a selection of Heirloom tomato plants. Pricing will be between $3 and $5 for all plants. Cash and credit cards will be accepted. Greendrop gogreendrop.com/what-we-accept will be collecting all articles of clothing, shoes, blankets and bedding. They also take tools, collectibles, kitchenware, toys, small appliances, electronics, musical instruments and sporting goods. ReStore Upcycle/Habitat For Humanity habitat.org/restores/donate-goods accept small and large donations of new or gently used furniture, appliances, housewares, building materials and more. One House At A Time ohaat.org will be collecting new and gently used twin sheets and comforters along with books specifically for ages 12 through young adult. Jenkintown Food Cupboard jenkintownfoodcupboard.org would appreciate donations of personal care items such as soap bars and shampoo. The Jenkintown Environmental Advisory Committee will meet Wednesday May 5th at 7 pm. Details TBA.

There are four categories shown here: left to right: cold weather crops that one plants directly in the ground, such as cabbage, beets, carrots and spinach; perennials that can be started early (but not ‘til late January or early February); garden vegetables to start early (but not yet), and herbs that can be planted now in a window garden. As a reminder, please try to use pesticides as a last resort for spotted lanternfly control. First, try using traps, manual squishing, and preventative measures like removing Tree of Heaven. Also remember, the spotted lanternfly is not going to kill your tree in your backyard, only weaken it. Pesticides are a last resort only for severe infestations that warrant assistance.
