Furniture maker Adam breaking edges and finishing up some sanding this morning. Live edges should always be sanded, and sharp edges eased to ensure a proper finish bite.

The start of a walnut live edge table top. After flattening from the mill or cnc, we throw very low grit belts into our 43 dual head wide belt to bring the slabs down close to their thickness. From there a craftsperson will work them to final sizing and any crack filling. They’ll come back to the sander for a higher grit finish sand later.

Quick shot of Kyle gang ripping rough poplar lumber. What you might not pick up is the rhythm in the work. The multi blade saw joints and rips in one motion using multiple saw blades. The operator tosses any scrap to on a cart and simultaneously decides which face of the board is best. The good face is stacked facing up, ready for the molder operator to feed. At 70’ per minute, the molder operator does not have time to grade out the best face. One of the keys to a perfect molding. @compasshardwoods

Our sister company @compasshardwoods brand new website is up and running! Over a thousand molding profiles in our catalog, sortable and searchable. Over the next few months we will continue to add hundreds of profiles, new products we offer, and services.

Furniture and millwork divisions teamed up to knock out a large molding order in quick time. We ran 31,000 lineal feet in about 3 days time. By utilizing one piece flow, the correct number of people, and timing our motions we were able to knock this one out and move on to the next. Rough lumber enters the ripsaw and exits the molder as finished molding.

Inventory management is important, especially when your goal is carrying none of it. Using a trusted network of suppliers we only bring in our materials when the job is ready for production. Too soon and it sits, too late and we run short on time. It takes a solid team to perfect this approach.

New versatile table designed and constructed by the GP furniture team. Built with the same break down easy ship system we use for all of our work, this table ships flat and easily assembles on site.

24’ V shaped conference table in book matched quartered white oak veneer. Finished in black. This is a table that you just have to see in person, it is big but full of amazing grain detail!

24’ V shaped conference table in the works! We laid up and pressed these book matched white oak panels slightly larger than the final cut, and CNC cut them to nice. Not an easy job when all seams in the veneer need to line up, for this crew.

In conjunction with our millwork shop @compasshardwoods we now offer thin plank solid wood tops (think edge grain butcher block style) as well as our wide plank tops. Available in many species and endless sizes. @ Greg Pilotti Furniture Makers

24’ V shaped conference table in the works! We processed quarter sawn white oak veneer to book match piece by piece and flip match across the two V sections of the table. Hot pressing requires very precise calculations and skilled operators. Each panel requires a certain pressure, and each glue a certain time/temperature.

We recently added a millwork division to our company @compasshardwoods. Together we serve the commercial furniture and residential custom millwork markets and are excited to begin serving commercial custom millwork.

Our friends at @ihkwip are a new start up that released a bag designed for PPE use last week. We quickly ordered a bag for each of our employees to store gloves, sanitizer, extra mask, etc to protect ourselves when we leave the shop for site work or when taking material delivery. Quickly our team began to see other uses for the bag such as holding a tape, crayon, or knife. Not only does it protect the crew, but it helps them get more done with less walking around. We highly recommend these for safety and utility, check out their Instagram to learn more.
