Handwork House 24.04.2021

Hello locals! I'm teaching a Saturday morning class adults (and teens) in June @pcad_ce It will be a fun, relaxing introductin to coil basket weaving. This craft is one if my all time favorites. It's relaxing and satisfying. Over four Saturday mornings we will learn all the skills necessary and have lots of beautiful materials to explore color and texture. This class runs at the same time as the @pcad_ce Young Artist Academy in June. So why not drop off the kids at class and treat yourself to a class at the same time! Link in my bio to register

Exactly one year ago today I posted a picture of my newly made OPEN sign for the front door here at Handwork House. It's still so bizarre to me that I have never gotten to turn the sign on since then! Thankfully ( mostly due to all the extra sewing work I referenced to in my last post) we are still here and excitedly anticipating a full lineup of Summer Camps! If you have a chance please consider sharing our camps or tell a friend about Handwork House. It really makes a huge difference for a tiny business like mine. Thank you so much

Hi home school parents! I will be teaching a home school creative fiber art class @pcad_ce starting in February. Visit @pcad_ce for more info and to register. I love this little video introduction they made for me! A class would make an amazing gift for the kids! Six weekly classes exploring fibers together! It doesn't get much better than that!

Greetings! It has been a while since I have introduced myself. I am Sarah, the owner and teacher at Handwork House- Community Fiber Art Workshop here in Lancaster, PA. I love making things and teaching other people how to make things too! I delayed this announcement a few days so I could take advantage of this Holiday weekend. But here goes... If you are a local to Lancaster or you're planning a visit... I'm so happy to say that we have finally started making some plans @hand...workhouse for 2021! (I just sent out the newsletter so check your email or click the link in my profile!) I am happy to announce I will be teaching a home school class @pcad_ce beginning in February! AND all of our Summer Camps for 2021 here @handworkhouse are going live THIS Friday 11/27! (Check the newsletter for a sale on all camps!) It is so exciting to be looking toward the future again after more than 8 months. Handwork House will remain closed this Winter until it is safe to hold classes here again. We are working to create a more open-air classroom for Summer Camps and possible Spring classes. Happy Thanksgiving, Stay Safe and Stay Home Everyone!

This past week should have been our last week of Summer Camp here at Handwork House. That feels so weird to say since it seems like the Summer never even got started. So I baked this Vegan Victoria Sponge from @thevegspace in honor of the Summer that never was. (Delicious recipe btw!) . Thank you to all of my students and patrons who have reached out to me in the past few months and inquired about Fall classes. I am slowly making my way through my emails and messages in resp...onse. Sadly at this time I can't plan to hold any in-person classes this Fall- as much as I would really love to! I also wish that I could zoom or record lessons and I am really struggling to overcome my anxiety to do that. I know that virtual is the only option right now but I also know that (right now) I will emotionally rip myself to shreds before, during and after attempting it. If that changes I'll be sure to let you all know. . In the meantime I am perpetually reorganizing and streamlining our operations here at Handwork House for the future. There WILL be a time in the future when we can all be together again- learning and having fun! Stay safe and keep wearing that mask See more

I hope that the fire that has ignited the world since the murder of George Floyd never goes out. I hope white people like me will start (or continue) doing the anti-racism work that needs to be done everyday. I hope that those of us who have had the privilege to be meek and mild in the past will find our voices and speak out in every way that we can. It's better to speak up, make mistakes and learn from them- than it is to stay silent and continue to benefit from a system of white supremacy. A system that kills Black and Brown people everyday. . #endwhitesupremacy #defundthepolice #blacklivesmatter #georgefloyd

Thank you to everyone for your understanding and kind words about my last post! It feels good to have most of the Summer Camps refunds given back to families who can use those funds. Now we can start looking forward to a Summer unlike any other- but hopefully it will be a great one! . We have been spending some time each morning doing a different kind of "sowing" here at Handwork House. The backyard garden is almost all planted with veggies now . For the first time in 1...6 years I only planted 4 tomatoes plants (down from the usual 8-10) because I am trying to be more realistic about my needs and my time and energy this season. Honestly it just makes me happy to look at a pretty little garden every morning and the fruits and veggies are always a lovely surprise perk when they show up. . Next we have to finally check in with the Fiber & Dye Garden plots. Luckily those are pretty well established at this point and sort of do their own thing most of the time . . . #gardening #backyard #lancasterpa #lancastercityliving #urbangarden #urbangardening #organicgardening #growyourownfood #gardensofinstagram #gardensnotlawns #foodnotlawns See more

Sadly, we have made the difficult decision to cancel all of our Summer Camps for this year. We were very excited about all ten weeks of camp we had planned for the Summer. We have missed all of our students this Spring! We will most certainly miss the campers and the hustle and bustle of crafting morning, noon and night that the Summer Camp season brings. We will miss sewing and knitting and cooking and baking with all of you. And of course we will miss sharing giant bowls o...f popcorn, playing board games and all of the extra love you show Simon and Farrah. I know everyone has been very disappointed this Spring and now moving into the Summer. We look forward to bringing some free online content to our crafting community this Summer because we miss you all so much. So stay tuned as we work on upcoming virtual learning opportunities. Stay safe and keep making! See more

I'm just continuing to make things here at Handwork House. Our Summer situation is still so unknown but I will begin to send refunds for our Spring classes in the next week. I was originally planning on offering everyone credit towards future classes but I can't even envision the future at this point. So I will focus on the present and I appreciate everyone's patience and understanding. I hope to offer some small online learning opportunities soon. Most of all I hope to learn and teach with you all again in person Stay safe and wear your mask. . This sunhat is so goofy but I love it. I decided to make a small brim mostly because I am so so excited about making even goofier sunhats and I need to move on to the next one. As always it looks better on Sally....she's just a classy lady. @ Handwork House
