Our service of prayers for healing this evening took place in the crossing of Iona Abbey. Splintered from the ones we hold dear, estranged from polarised politi...cs, distant from people we struggle to understand, we come to God, who is close, closer than our own breath. Angry about empty cupboards, anxious about hungry children, beside ourselves with worry, we come to God, who is close, closer than our own breath. Overwhelmed with sadness, tired from the struggle, determined to persevere, we come to God, who is close, closer than our own breath. God is near to the broken-hearted, and saves the crushed in spirit. We wait for God; we wait in hope, more than those who wait for the morning, more than those who look for the dawn.
