Haverford College Students' Council 26.01.2021

Join us for a presentation, followed by a short discussion, on disability studies, art and science education! As a part of Disability Awareness Month (see https://www.facebook.com/events/556020097908758/ for more awesome events!), we (Sarah Waldis and Lindsey Lopes) will present a story of our experiences with the BioArt Project - a collaboration between Haverford and Bryn Mawr students enrolled in Critical Disability Studies: Theory and Practice and artists working at the C...enter for Creative Works (CCW). Located right down Lancaster Avenue, CCW is an art studio for adults with developmental disabilities with a focus on providing creative vocational opportunities. Over the course of three weeks, CCW artists and HC/BMC students met in the lab to culture the colorful natural products produced by the harmless soil bacteria Streptomyces. We then brought our lab experiences to the art studio, working on a variety of projects in woodworking, fiber arts, and mixed media. Along the way we discovered new ways of thinking about accessibility and creativity in both science and art. Interested but unable to make it to the talk? Make sure to check out the final exhibition, which will be up in Zubrow Commons beginning on April 28th. More details on the exhibition’s opening night will be forthcoming. Special thanks to Tim O'Donovan for the lovely BioArt and Caleb Eckert for the wonderful photograph!

There will be a beginner's lesson at 7:30 and dancing starts at 8. It's totally free to Tri-Co students, but we would appreciate $5 donations from everyone else. No partner necessary.

E-Team, a documentary co-directed by Katy Chevigny and Ross Kauffman, is a film that documents four members investigating human rights atrocities and abuses around the world. In the 90-minute film, the audience is taken on a ride across the globe, experiencing some of the horrible things that happen to people in different areas of our planet - and as a chapter of Amnesty International at Haverford these are some of the things we are trying to combat. Please come out and join us for this awesome film! Attached is the URL to the trailer for the film, for your convenience.
