While following proper social distancing and masking guidelines, more than 75 people gathered at Green Bay Botanical Garden recently to honor their loved ones at a memorial service hosted by Heartland Hospice Serving Northeastern Wisconsin.

Gordon Creamer, Heartland Hospice volunteer coordinator and chairperson for Heartland’s We Honor Veterans Committees in Maryland, details the importance of not only recognizing veterans, but also taking time to listen to their stories and truly understanding what their service means to each of them.

By becoming a We Honor Veterans (WHV) Partner, Heartland Hospice is able to recognize the unique needs of America’s Veterans and their families as well as learn how to accompany and guide Veterans through their life stories toward a peaceful ending.

In honor of National Pastoral Care/Spiritual Care Week this week, we are sharing a caring story from Heartland Hospice Serving Raleigh-Durham. Kinsley Lewis-Cobb shares her thoughts on what it means to be a Spiritual Care Coordinator and tells a wonderful story about how spiritual care provided comfort for a recent patient’s family. Pet therapy is one of the additional services many of our hospice agencies offer. Interacting with a friendly pet can help with any possible physical and mental issues. Pet interaction also helps produce a calming feeling, which can alleviate pain and reduce stress. Heartland Hospice serving Central Wisconsin has been utilizing pet volunteers since October 2012 when the agency first began caring for hospice patients.
