Another great political action day with the PA-AFL CIO and the Harrisburg Central Labor Council. Today we were joined by three fantastic local candidates. Britt...ney Rodas,Patty Smith, and Shanna Danielson gave a pep talk to our labor volunteers before heading out to engage union members. Our operations are expanding through out the capital region and we will elect union friendly candidates up and down the ticket! When you vote make sure to cast a vote for Rodas in the 105th, Smith in the 104th, and Danielson in the 31st. See more

The LABOR School at Penn State announces two free upcoming programs: Per SEIU - Why Politics Matters for Workers: Overcoming Distraction and Division Free online, self-paced course, opening Monday, Oct. 5th With election season upon us, we return to the question, "Why do politics matter for workers?" Elections have consequences that shape our lives as workers and as trade unionists. And yet, it’s not always easy to explain to others why politics matters and the impact on ou...r lives and communities as working people. This self-paced, interactive course provides a framework for workers to evaluate candidates and political discourse, reflecting on our experiences and the strategies used by those who use the political process to rig the economic rules in their favor. Specifically, we will examine how strategies of distraction and division have been used to diminish our democracy to advantage corporate elites. Register for this FREE course by going to our website here. After registering, you will receive access to the course which you can complete on your own schedule and at your own pace. Racial Justice Film Series The Hate U Give Free online, live session, Friday, October 16 at 7:00 p.m. The LABOR School will host a second film as part of the Racial Justice Film Series to help center issues of racial inequity and justice for labor activists and our organizations. We ask that participants view The Hate U Give prior to the session on your own time. The Hate U Give is available through Amazon Prime to rent or buy, on HBO, iTunes, Google Play and may be available at your local library. On Friday, October 16 we will view clips that highlight themes of systemic racism and the connections to economic issues, the labor movement, and our entire political system. Following each of the clips shown, participants will engage with one another through facilitated small group discussions. Register to participate here. If you have any questions regarding these programs, please direct them to [email protected]. See more
