Greetings internet. I wanted to address some of the questions and comments I’ve received since announcing our switch to a PB menu and also to say that I’m sorry to any long time customers that I’ve pissed off with this decision, I’ve always appreciated *ALL of your support, but it’s something that I have to do. Let’s start with why I’m doing this.... Firstly from a personal standpoint, it’s because I don’t fuck with meat or dairy anymore in my personal life and I don’t want to sell it anymore either. I have a son now, and I want to teach him that first and foremost one must live by their convictions. I was once staunchly anti-vegan. When someone told me that I should try @vedgephiladelphia or @vstreetfood or @gangsterveganorganics or even our dear neighbor @dottiesdonuts (sorry boys) I would aggressively hush them. I did not by any means eat vegan food. Or at least I thought. Sometime last July, completely out of the blue, I woke up and decided I was going to follow a strict plant based diet for thirty days. A couple of days in I decided to make it 60 days, two days later I was saying 90, by the end of the month I knew I wasn’t turning back. At this time I also started reading a lot of articles about plant based diets, and watching documentaries on the subject, slowly all of this research began opening my eyes to the other side of veganism that isn’t about us. I’m talking about the side about the animals and the planet we all live on. The hot topic if you will, and in this post I’m not going to get into all that, because I don’t have enough space and because it’ll probably only start another silly computer comment war, but suffice to say I don’t want to run my business based on animal agriculture anymore. I’m not knocking anyone who does, these are just my beliefs and how I’m choosing to run my business. Secondly from a business standpoint: Simply put, I think it’s a good idea. I can confidently say people are going to enjoy what we will be serving. Chef Ricky is making plant based magic upstairs in that shitty little shack of ours and the people of our fair city are surely going to enjoy it. And to all of our faithful customers who have been with us since the 45 minute wait for a breakfast taco truck days, or even from the ones who came along at the one table unfinished bathroom freezing cold shop days, I’m begging you to trust me on this one. Come by and check out the new menu, you will not be disappointed, and if you are I’ll make it up to you somehow. Next point a lot of people are wondering is, What am I going to do if it fails? In that case, I will turn the shop into an organic produce stand, alienating my new found vegan friends, and only catering to strict fruitarians. Then ride out the remainder of the lease, probably move to southwest florida in the early 2020’s. Thanks for reading. Anymore questions feel free to message me. (*exception being to those who lean over the counter and ask if their foods done when we’re busy)
