Anise hyssop (Agastache foeniculum) hydrosol was distilled today at Carah Medical Arts. The scent is delightful! The entire Gay Street and 3rd block was wafted ...with its fragrance. This patch of anise hyssop was grown at Ideas Bookstore in Kimberton. Thank you Shannon Chamberlin for sharing from your garden and assisting today’s distillation! There are so many medicinal uses for anise hyssop hydrosol: pour some into your chamomile steam for cough and congestion, spray on your skin for minor scrapes, burns or even poison ivy, it’s also similar to lemon balm for soothing cold sores, spray the room of sick loved ones thoroughly with this hydrosol to prevent the lingering of viruses and bacteria (a very helpful addition at the clinic), apply twice daily to foot funguses and let air dry, sip as tea or splash of hydrosol in warm water for restlessness before sleep or minor stomach bloating. American Indians have also used anise hyssop as an incense to uplift a depressed mood. Remember that in general hydrosols are 60+ times stronger than a tea and made entirely of the plants volatile substances. They are very powerful and even one drop has its effects. The butterflies love this plant and even visited while we were preparing the plant for the still. It’s in the mint family so a vigorous grower great for perennial gardens. Plant anise hyssop in your garden and get to know this amazing plant!
