Halfway through my pregnancy I knew I needed to make changes to my birth plan to ensure I could have the experience I wanted. Due to Covid-19, my initial provider would only allow one support person and no children. The thought of not having my sister or son present caused a great deal of anxiety and I immediately began looking for other options. The clouds cleared when I met Asasiya Muhammad of ...Inner Circle Midwifery during our virtual consultation. She was witty and listened intuitively, but the bad news came at the end of our conversation. Midwifes unfortunately cannot accept insurance, and as a stay at home mom with one income (my husband’s) we could not afford her fee out of pocket. Feeling stuck and frustrated, my husband and I weighed our options and decided it’d be best he stay home with our son while my sister supported me in labor. However; the Philly Birth Fund was created and my life was forever changed!! After applying and being chosen as a grant recipient, I transferred care to Inner Circle at 32 weeks! Everything was so seamless and honestly, absolutely perfect. On my due date I safely delivered my baby girl surrounded by ALL of my family and the best midwife ever- Asasiya! I often sit and reflect and I’m literally brought to tears. I am so thankful and humbled to have been chosen as a grant recipient. Can’t wait for you to see more pics @racheluephoto took at @shonn_bon ‘s birth. But ayye: the newborn exam! I share the family’s relief and excitement after every birth but don’t truly get to relax about our new babies for several weeks after the birth. As you can see from mine and @daprofessional_midwife ‘s face the first moments, hours, days, and weeks are mostly spent making sure we have a healthy, normal transition here. Often times, dads/partners are overlooked in the pregnancy and birth process. But they also have thoughts, concerns, desires that should be acknowledged. This is only the 2nd time a dad has left me a formal reviewand I really appreciate the feedback! Thanks @killebrew_jr I learned a lot from observing and listening to you.
