Here’s a good reason to join RPA - so you can get that sweet, sweet knowledge even after you graduate.

10 Reasons to Major in Anthropology at IUP (and a bonus to reason to stick around for an MA in Applied Archaeology): 1) U.S. News and World Report lists both Anthropologist and Archaeologist as top 10 science jobs with a low unemployment rate. 2) The global economy demands knowledge of multi-cultural issues and cultural sensitivity. A major or minor in anthropology makes you more marketable and attractive when applying for a job or graduate school.... 3) Almost 3/4 of our majors find employment in their area of specialty, while 22% continue on to graduate school. This record is one of the highest in the College of Social Sciences and Humanities. 4) 75% of our majors’ register for an internship, which often leads to employment and getting into graduate school. Some examples include interning in: Washington D.C. at the Smithsonian Institution to study archaeology the City of Seattle to study Chinese Immigration Kenya to provide service in cultural efforts run by Operation Crossroads or close to home in Pittsburgh to study refugee resettlement 5) Anthropology faculty are friendly and committed to undergraduate education. 6) Anthropology class sizes are small and you will get individual attention. 7) Many students each year have the opportunity to work on our archaeology excavations and in lab research. This paid or volunteer work is often tied to courses in archaeology. 8) Our active Anthropology Club and Honor's Society organize interesting speakers, field trips and potlucks for students. 9) Anthropology faculty stress quality teaching and careful advising, and value their close relationships with students. 10) The Anthropology Department occupies the entire ground floor of McElhaney Hall with several labs, digital classrooms, artifact and skeletal collections, and computer facilities. 11) Anthropology has a M.A. in Applied Archaeology due to high demand in the workplace. Anthropology BA students can apply for Early Admissions to this program; completing both BA and MA degrees in approximately 5 years and saving money. Remember the old days when archaeologists used to rappel from helicopters to investigate sites? Now there is LiDAR from helicopters to investigate sites. Still cool, and probably safer. https://www.sciencealert.com/lidar-scans-reveal-hidden-anci
