John Evans House 04.06.2021

John Evans Sr. on Aug 4, 1725 John conveyed a few acres of the 400 acres of land he had purchased from the son of William Penn to be used for the erection and use of a Baptist Meeting House, known as London Tract Church. Currently another name has been added to the building London Tract Meeting House, Located just over the Delaware State line in Chester County, PA at the end of S Bank Rd and Sharpless Rd in Landenberg, PA. Current address is: (307 London Tract Rd Landenberg, ...PA 19350.) Located next to the church is the original John Evans Sr. House on Sharpless Rd approx. address is: (512 Sharpless Rd Landenberg, PA 19350). There is a John Evans House in Newark, DE witch was built in 1800, thinking this was a later descendent of John Evans Sr. John Evans Sr. was the oldest of two sons of John Evans. He was probably born before 1673. In 1695 the Evans family came to Philadelphia from the parish of Nantmeal in Radnorshire, Wales arriving on the ship "James and Mary," When John Sr. arrived in America 1695 with his wife Lydia they already had an infant daughter. (Sadly she died shortly after arriving.) Five years later the couple had a son. They named him John Evans Jr. The family was active in the Welsh Tract Church. First the were members of the Welsh Tract Church in Newark and later this London Tract Church in Chester County. Note the Baptist Meeting House (London Tract Church) was established 1729 by members of the Welsh Tract Baptist Church in Newark, Delaware built in 1703 then rebuilt in 1746. In 1930 the original London Tract Church closed when there were no longer any living members. FACT: In the year 1700 did you know that the entire state of Delaware was Pennsylvania. Delaware became an official state in 1776. They are know as the first state because they were the first to sign the declaration of independence, Pennsylvania signed 5 days later! On 4 August 1725 the land for the London Tract Church & Cemetery was donated by John Evans Sr. The Evans family was prominent in the early membership of this church.
