What we believe to be a first for Juniata College, a Mikveh was held last week for 3 of our students in our own JC pool. Thank you to Rabbi Audrey Korotkin and Bill Wallen, both Campus Ministry Affilicates, our Athletic Director, Greg Curley and Swim Coach Devon McFadden for helping to make it possible.
Some happenings across campus and thank you the to the JCMA and students involved for including the Unity House. We love the piece and appreciate the thought.

As I was reading an article today and thinking about a conversation yesterday and how we want to promote kindness, compassion, mercy and grace as we begin our new semester this passage may help some of us even for a brief time moment: "My dear brothers and sisters, take note of this: Everyone should be quick to listen, slow to speak, and slow to become angry, for one's anger does not bring about the righteous life that God desires." ~James 1:19-20 I would add that you need ...not belong to a faith tradition to show kindness, compassion, mercy and grace either. All humankind is capable if showing all of those and so much more including love for one another including a stranger. As we prepare for the start of the semester, let us remind ourselves that we all need kindness, we all make mistakes and we can all show compassion for one another without cost.
In February 2005, two distinct yet important offices came together to form the Unity House, Campus Ministry and Diversity (now EDI). During the past 15 years the relationship between those offices, colleagues and students have formed bonds that none of us could have imagined when we began this journey together. The enormous, positive outcomes that have come from sharing our stories, our struggles, all the pieces, good and bad, have made us a stronger community, united toget...her, to be better for all, to share the struggles and the joys. Campus Ministry hears you, we see you, we stand with you, our sisters and brothers, we support you and we will be here for you today and tomorrow. The bigotry happening in our community is not reflective of the Juniata community we have supported and we will continue to work along side of you to make our community better for all our students, theirs families, our employees and guest. We strive to welcome all people and to serve our campus community. Please do not hesitate to reach out to our Campus Ministry staff at any time. See more
Oh the world is broken, in particular our country is broken in so many pieces and to put them together, where to start. It's a jigsaw puzzle with thousands of pieces that all need love, you have to start with one piece at a time, pick it up, love it with patience, intentional love, nurture, listen, sit with it until it is ready to be placed with another piece. The pieces that aren't ready just aren't ready and it will take many of us picking up the pieces and placing them together with intentional love to finally get to those pieces not willing to mend the brokenness of themselves. A message from President James A. Troha: The tragic death of George Floyd last week in Minneapolis, along with other recent deaths rooted in racism and hatred, ...have caused so many across our country to experience unfathomable pain and despair. As an institution of higher education, it is imperative that we not be bystanders to inequity, discrimination, and intolerance. As an institution and as individuals, we acknowledge that there is work to be done to combat structural and systemic discrimination and racism so that we can seek to advance our vision of promoting equity, embracing diversity, and creating an inclusive environment so that our students can enter the global community as ethical citizens and leaders. In the words of Martin Luther King Jr., Injustice anywhere is a threat to justice everywhere. Let us be people of justice and be willing to raise our voice and stand with the oppressed, silenced, and excluded. See more
