Your body goes through many changes when you are expecting and some of these changes affect your dental health. Did you know pregnant women are at a higher risk for gingivitis and tooth decay? Many insurance companies allow for additional cleanings during pregnancy. If you are interested give us a call and we'll see if your current dental coverage will allow an extra cleaning.

Can my mask give me bad breath? There is no evidence that wearing a mask causes or exacerbates dental issues. But wearing a mask is making people more aware of their breath. The three main causes of bad breath are food trapped in teeth, bacteria and dryness. Remember you can combat bad breath by brushing to remove sticky plaque, floss to remove food trapped, keep hydrated by drinking water and see your dentist regularly.

Thumb Sucking and Pacifier use can be difficult habits to break. How can you help your child stop thumb sucking? Positive reinforcement- Praise your child for not sucking. Offer small rewards and set attainable goals. Gentle reminders- Sometimes children suck their thumbs without thought, a gentle reminder helps them to be more aware Identify triggers- Identify stresses and provide comfort in other ways, such as hug or stuffed animals. Dentist visit- Your child’s dentist and hygienist can explain what can happen to the teeth from sucking if it continues and offer encouragement
