Lancaster Aquatic Club

Last day of the season. Covid could not keep us from having a very successful season. We still broke a ton of club records, achieved a ton of new sectionals and JOs cuts, saw massive time drops from all ages, and had a blast doing it!!!

A huge thank you to all of LAC’s friends and families for making this Polar Bear Plunge such a success! Together we raised more than $12,000 for the team and donations are still coming in! Shelby is State Champion!!! Shelby Kahn took home the gold at the High School state championship this Saturday in the 200 free with a 1:49.57. She also teamed up with LAC swimmer, Kaitlyn Bitting, to lead her Wilson High School 400 free relay state gold!!!

What an incredible weekend for LAC swimmers! The resilience that the swimmers, throughout entire team, have shown through this incredibly difficult year has been nothing short of amazing! And this weekend rewarded the kids who were fortunate enough to race this weekend. Over 80% of our swims were lifetime bests! We broke 10, yes 10, club records! We got 4 brand new Sectionals cuts from 11-14 year olds. And LAC ended up in 2nd overall place with 1,201 points behind a team 3 times bigger than us. GO LAC!!!

It wouldn’t be a session without a record getting broken! Tonight the 11-12 boys (Brody Reber, Jackson Shirey, Kyto Anderson, and Jack Martin) broke the record set last year by Jack, Brody, John Moll, and Ryan Taylor! They went 3:51.49 to take down the old record of 3:53.79!!!

These girls swam 4 relays and broke 3 club records. Today Mia, Addie, Cali, and Ashley added 400 free relay to their records by going 3:54.22. They broke the record (3:57.47) that was set last year by Madee Roberts, Bria Burkholder, Mia, and Ashley. Congrats girls!!!

Records keep going down! Mia Parry, Addie Johnson, Ashley Mellinger, and Cali Burkholder went 1:56.98 to break the 200 Medley relay record (1:57.54) held by Leigh Durrman, Kelly Doyle, Kelly Horner, and Christina Frey from 1992!!!

Ashley Mellinger added to her record haul again tonight in the 100 IM!!! She went 1:01.15 to break Courtney Maule’s record (1:01.98) from 2000. Congrats Ashley!

Down goes another club record!!! The 11-12 boys team of Brody Reber, Kyto Anderson, Jackson Shirey, and Jack Martin broke the 200 free relay record with a 1:43.73! The record (1:44.80) they broke was set in 2012 by Jared Byrne, Nate Heisey, Nick Glass, and Miguel Jacome. Congrats boys!!!

The record breaking continues! The 13-14 girls 200 Medley relay team of Bria Burkholder, Cami Schwartz, Madee Roberts, and Ava Knopsnyder went 1:51.13! That breaks the record set in 2009 (1:52.75) by Amanda Lam, Emily Cameron, Kasey Mann, and Paige Daniel. Congratulations Ladies!!!

Another club record goes down tonight! The 11-12 girls 400 Medley Relay team of Mia Parry, Addie Johnson, Ashley Mellinger, and Cali Burkholder crushed the club by 7 seconds with a 4:15.40! They broke the record set last year by Bria Burkholder, Mia, Ashley, and Madalee Roberts. Congrats ladies!

Ashley Mellinger continued her assault on our 11-12 record board tonight. This time she broke Charlene Miller’s 500 free record (5:12.41) from 1988 with a 5:10.98!!!

Ethan Shonk just took 4th place in the 200 Back at the Middle Atlantic version of the USA Swimming virtual Jr Champs with a 1:50.19!!! Ethan came into the fall with a 1:55.95 as his best time! #improvement

Ashley Mellinger broke her 2nd club record of the morning! This time it was Courtney Maule’s 100 fly record from 2000! Also it was Ashley’s first time under a 1:00! Her record time was 59.17!!! Congratulations Ashley!#LACbutterfly

Congratulations to Ashley Mellinger for breaking the 11-12 club record in the 200 fly. She went 2:13.70 and broke Ava Knopsnyder’s 2 year old record by 3 seconds!!! #LACtough

Congratulations to Ethan Shonk for qualifying for the 2020 USA Swimming 18&under championship today in the 100 back with a lifetime best 52.37!

The 17-18s led us off this morning. I think they were excited to race after 7+ months off because that was the fastest these guys have swum in October in a long time! #pandemicswimmeet #panless

Congratulations to Ashley Parry for committing to be a part of the Olivet Nazarene University swim team class of 2025!!!

It’s 12 months since we’ve been able to swim long course #longcourseisthebestcourse and it’s been 3 years since we last swam in the Lancaster County Central Park pool. I know it doesn’t mean we are back to normal but it just feels right being in an outdoor long course pool in the summer! #smallwins

The recipients of the sportsmanship trophy for the 2019-2020 season are Catherine Horner and Jackson Prevost! Every year LAC gives out the sportsmanship trophy. This award goes out to 1 female and 1 male swimmer who best shows leadership, a great work ethic, sportsmanship, and the other qualities that go into a swimmer being a great teammate and athlete. This award is typically handed out at our annual banquet in April but with the banquet being canceled we were only able to ...hand these out on Friday. Each recipient gets to keep the trophy for one year before handing it to the next recipient. Each recipient gets their name engraved on the trophy. There are names going back to the 1959-1960 season for the girls and 1969-70 for the boys (LAC started as an all girls team). I’ve posted pictures of the names on the trophy.
