With a heavy heart we're reporting the passing of our longtime board president, Jerry Smoker. Jerry was involved with the Cemetery even as a child: he grew up in the Cemetery caretaker's house while his father, John Smoker, was the Cemetery's superintendent. Jerry always made time for the Cemetery throughout his life despite the demands of a busy career and other volunteer endeavors. Jerry was an avid gardener and spent many hours tending to the memorial garden at the cente...r of the Cemetery. He was particularly fond of the hydrangeas that he found on clearance and nursed to full health. Jerry would share the history of the Cemetery, our permanent residents, and every house along Lemon street as he worked to maintain the grounds each weekend. We'll keep doing the work, but we don't have nearly the wealth of history that he had. If you have stories you'd like to share of Jerry, the Cemetery, or the block, please leave a comment or reach out another way. You can read more at the obituary that was published online: https://lancasteronline.com//article_d6a60aa7-f7f1-5171-a0

Our neighbors on Lemon Street will see some yellow caution tape around some of our trees near the sidewalk. The Lancaster City arborist has asked us to trim back some of the growth that's blocking the street lights, and we'll also trim some of the branches that extend over the street and routinely get hit by trucks. The yellow tape is what we've used to mark the trees for our trimming contractor.
