Hello everyone! The support and concern for birds and critters getting stuck to spotted lantern fly tape has been amazing, however, it has come to our attention... that people are trying to remove the birds and other small critters from the tape themselves! This could be very dangerous for the animals involved, and so the best plan of action is as follows. You should remove the tape from the tree (or whatever it is on), cover the animal with a towel, cut the tape AROUND the animal, place the animal on the tape with the towel inside a box with a lid (to ensure it is dark and warm), and transport it to your nearest rehabilitation center to ensure the animal can be safely and professionally assisted. Removing the animals is a very involved process and consists of several steps. The animals require pain medication and time to decompress before removal can begin. While we know people have good intentions of trying to help the animals, it can cause their skin to tear, bones to break, and the loss of feathers. As well, any tape should be covered with small mesh chicken wire in order to attempt to prevent sticking. Again, thank you everyone for your continued support of these animals! See more
