Lane’s End Farm Creamery 18.05.2021

That cream-line gets me every single time. We know our milk’s been selling quickly this past week, but we are just a few days from a solution, so hang with us! Our new cow will join our herd mid-week, followed shortly by our new vat pasteurizer, which has been months in the making. Each vat is handmade at a small facility in Maryland. We know it’s worth the wait.... These changes will allow us to have a lot more milk each day to stock the shelves. We appreciate your patience and support as we continue to grow: one cow at a time!

Happy Saturday from the milking parlor! We’re anxiously awaiting our new cow’s arrival this week and our new vat pasteurizer in the next two weeks! Our goal is and always will be serving our community with the freshest, highest quality milk from our own herd of Jersey cows. And now we’re excited to be able to reach even more of you!

Buttercup has so much meaning for Lane’s End Farm. She’s our first Jersey cow, her milk is what started our Microdairy. We bought her as a calf, we knew she’d set a timeline of just about 2 years until she’d calve and start producing milk. When she arrived at our farm, our creamery dream became real... fast! We started taking this dream more seriously, and saved to build and buy our creamery. Buttercup is directly related to the herd of Jersey’s from Jesse’s parents dairy far...m. She brings more than her beautiful brown color: her lineage means so much to us! Fast forward to 2020: our creamery was inspected and approved for sales! Buttercup had her first calf, Rosie. She started making milk in February and so our Microdairy business was born! If you’ve followed a while, you know we had some trouble breeding back Buttercup and her milk dried up (dairy cows are bred approx yearly to maintain milk production. A dairy cow that can’t be bred is generally sold to auction). We tried several times and called our vet for a formal evaluation in the fall. We held onto hope because Buttercup is more than just a cow to us. And after another attempt at breeding, we got the news yesterday that yes: Buttercup is pregnant! Buttercup is due to calve this fall! We can’t wait for you all to follow along this summer and fall as we welcome so many new calves to our herd. We’re so proud Buttercup will hold her place as our farm’s matriarch! She’s the lead bell cow and the eldest, most meaningful cow in our herd. She represents what it means to follow the dreams God put on our hearts.

My favorite lemon blueberry muffins Spring makes me crave all the citrus flavors, and lemons become a staple in my weekly grocery order. This is my go to blueberry muffin recipe, enhanced with lots of fresh lemon zest, my whole family’s favorite! I love sharing our home recipes while giving you all another way to enjoy our milk! (The video took so much longer than I thought, so here’s the recipe if you don’t have time to hear all my nonsense )... Lemon Blueberry Muffins 1.5 c flour 1/2 c sugar 1/2 tsp salt 2 tsp baking powder 1/4 c melted butter 1 egg 1/3 c Creamline milk 1 c blueberries (fresh or frozen) 1 tsp lemon zest Topping: 1/2 c sugar 1/2 c flour 1/4 c cold grated butter 1/2 tsp lemon zest Preheat oven to 375F. Combine dry ingredients, including lemon zest. Slowly add wet ingredients, mixing well. This batter will be thick, this accommodates for the extra juice from the berries. Add blueberries and gently stir until combined. In a separate bowl, mix topping ingredients. Combine until small clumps develop. Put batter into parchment lined muffin tin. Sprinkle with topping. Bake at 375F for approximately 20 minutes, until golden brown and set.
