What most people don’t know is that the proper way to introduce two dogs is to do so off-leash. If that’s not possible for some reason then BOTH dogs need to be on a leash. Dogs being introduced on a leash feel a sense of entrapment, where as if they need to defend or remove themselves from a situation they don’t feel comfortable in they are not able. If one is on a leash and the other is not then the one on a leash feels a disadvantage and will immediately feel stressed... ...No matter how friendly each dog is. When I encounter an off leash dog on my walks and the owner is screaming from afar oh don’t worry he’s friendly as they slowly attempt to gain control of their off leash dog I reply well mine is not friendly and will bite your dog(even if I know they will not) it amazes me how many people still don’t seem to care or understand that they just ruined our walk and even worse, could leave a negative lasting effect on my dog.
