Director of Athletics/Special Recruitment, Andrew Johnson is conducting a research study and seeking 30-40 students to participate. The Black and Latinx Student Empowerment and Support Workshop will provide basic information and tools to help students feel supported and empowered, which can contribute to academic success. The goal of the program is to increase participant’s retention rate and chances of graduating from LCCC. To participate you must be at least 18 years old a...nd identify as a Black or Latinx student. You must also be willing to complete pre/post surveys (confidential), participate in two 1 hour sessions and a focus group that will be offered in an online format. Due to inclement weather, LCCC will have a 2 hour delay at all campuses on Tuesday. Offices will open at 10 a.m. All in-person classes that start before 10 a.m. are cancelled. It’s time to meet an LCCC Cougar! Jamaris Salinas is part of the Early College Program, which allows current High School students to attend LCCC full-time and earn an associate degree. Salinas’ favorite LCCC spot is the Rothrock Library, where she spends most of her time when classes are on campus. Her future goals include attending Drexel University or NYU to pursue a degree in psychology. Salinas plans to become either a cognitive or criminal psychologist. Samantha Furhwirth has spent most of her life dancing to her own beat, and making her own path. A 2015 graduate of LCCC, Furhwirth has a lifetime of world experience, and is using her view of the world to improve the way we inhabit it. From her beginnings at LCCC to studying in Japan to creating a food startup to designer sustainable living spaces, Fruhwirth has never let where she was on her journey define her.
