What a treat! Yesterday we had a visit from a regional celebrity and cat royalty --Mouse aka "Prince Fluffytail". Hector was curious about the new guy, but he's not a champion wrestler like Hector the Inspector. Thank you Cupboard Maker Books for the visit!

Most of my mail order comes in via internet but being a bookseller in this space and time means that I can do business at the brisk pace of today, or the gentle rhythm of the old ways. Today, I received a letter from California, from a person who wishes me to hold this title and send an invoice, so that they can send a money order. BI (before internet), this was a common practice. Some might grumble at the extra work in creating a printed invoice and mailing it to the customer while removing the book from your open stock waiting for payment via the mail. I do it with joy and in remembrance that these slower ways still work and adds the sense of hygge to the transaction.

A sweet thought for a reading friend. One of my customers ordered a special book, to be sent to another person. Gift card will be inside. In this case, just done to brighten someone's winter day. Books are shipped anywhere in the country, and once the pandemic is over, we will be back to shipping to the rest of the world.

Baby, it's COLD outside. Luckily, the heat is on here at the shop, and I am working on a lot of new fiction titles for the shelves. There's plenty of new Christian fiction, mysteries, and my "to be shelved in order" cart is overflowing with general fiction. Remember, before a snow storm--bread, milk, eggs and books. You will want something to read after the french toast party!

This is the LAST weekend of our annual 1/3 off sale!! I've put hundreds of books on the shelves this week for your browsing pleasure. Also, we are kicking off our Day of Service (January 18th) with a box for the Haven Food Bank. Please bring non-perishable foods for our box at the front of the shop. Look forward to seeing you Friday and Saturday. We open at 10, and close Friday at 6, Saturday at 3.

Last day of 2020. Open the doors, light the candles, welcome the New Year. I am here in the shop today from 10am-6pm, and can be available to you limited times on New Year's Day, by appointment. The sale continues until January 16th--1/3 off all store stock!

The shop will be open for regular hours, starting June 5th!!! Next week, Friday from 10am to 6pm, and Saturday from 10am to 3pm. Then we return to Thurs & Fri 10-6, Sat 10-3. Appointments can be made for other times, and I will still mail books and deliver in a 5 mile radius (or deliver to The Otto Bookstore in Williamsport). Masks are required--I'll be happy to see you!

Ever wanted a bookshop all to yourself? With this county open to YELLOW, we are able to open to the public. I'm going slow--and that means you make an appointment and have the bookshop all to yourself! Yellow still means masks (I am susceptible to respiratory yuck, and have contact with people who have serious immunity issues). I look forward to seeing you!

It's official. We are in one of the counties in Pennsylvania that is going to "yellow". That means that we can open our doors. We will be open, starting May 8th by appointment only. This will be for a (hopefully) short period of time. We're letting one group in at a time, and then disinfecting counters and knobs. Hector can't wait to see you. Mrs. B (in picture) is not quite sure. We still do telephone orders, mail orders, curbside service, and will deliver in a radius of 5 miles.

Quarantine update: Shop is officially shut, per Pennsylvania instructions. If someone thinks this is an excess of caution in this rural area, please be aware that cases are now popping up both in Centre County (directly South of Clinton) and Potter County (an even more rural county to the immediate North). IF people were tested, it would be found hereand presumptive positive in Clinton county is only a matter of time. My restaurant and other food service friends have it wo...rse. I work alone, so I do not have to worry about the family that shutting devastates economically. For the small business people I know and love, the people they employ are family. The anxiety is compounded. When this is overand nothing in this world is foreverplease remember them. Many large corporate stores are conveniently listed as essential stores, as they have a food department, or a pharmacy attached. When a family member called Lowe’s to see if they were open, the response was of course. We are considered essential, a disaster business. My local hardware store is also open, but as of Friday was informed that there would be no more shipments during the quarantine. If this goes on long enough, they will no longer be a viable business, and the new model of business means that they have less inventory as compared with a business of 20-30 years ago.
