Some bottle stoppers for Christmas celebration. They were turned on the Lindow Rose engine and sport bases from @stainlessbottlestoppers which also had bottle... openers, honey dippers and other stainless accessories. #lindowmachineworks #lindowroseengine #engineturning #ornamentalturning #roseengine #roseenginelathe #davidlindow #lindowclockmaker @ Lake Ariel, Pennsylvania. One of the more simple operations but important nonetheless, after a wheel is bored true (see recent video) we then ream to size. This brings them all to the s...ame size and allows the boring operation to go faster and without worries. Sadly, few clock shops keep reamers. They are utterly useful and so often ignored. It is a Walker Turner still press. #lindowclockmaker #lindowmachineworks #clockmaking #machinetools #walkerturnerdrillpress See more
I was delighted by the idea of making these ornaments with the idea of raising funds for our church who has been compressed into a small frame and is seemingly ...bursting out of its shell. All the proceeds, your entire check, PayPal payment and (of course) cash, will go directly into the building fund. See what’s available at #availablewhitestonecreationco $35.00 for one. If you buy three or more they’re $28.00 each. Either way shipping is included in the price if you live in the USA. Otherwise the shipping cost will adjusted. DM or FB message me or comment below to get one for yourself and all your friends. I thought of all the symbolism that these little nut cases hold, and it’s easy to apply to our little community and yours as well. These are such a sweet reminder that a tiny acorn, with time, can also be the start of a whole forest of mighty oak trees and with the right nurturing, something magnificent is waiting. C.S. Lewis conveyed the idea of potential well. There are no ordinary people. The dullest and most uninteresting person you talk to may one day be a creature which, if you saw it now, you would be strongly tempted to worship, or else a horror and a corruption such as you now meet, if at all, only in a nightmare. All day long we are, in some degree, helping each other to one or the other of these destinations. It is in the light of these overwhelming possibilities, it is with the awe and the circumspection proper to them, that we should conduct all our dealings with one another, all friendships, all loves, all play, all politics. -C.S. Lewis God, who prepares His work through ages, accomplishes it when the hour is come, with the feeblest instruments." - J.H. Merle d'Aubigne
Once the teeth are cut in a wheel most often they need to be bored true, especially if cutting stacks of them as the arbor is usually quite small in diameter re...lative to the OD. Shown here are great wheels being bored out while being held by there teeth safely in a step collet in the South Bend 13. The carriage feed works well for this as it allows for rapid movement in and out. The wheels are then reamed to nominal size and taper broached by hand when fitted to the barrel. It is a carbide boring bar. #lindowclockmaker #clockmaking #horology #machinetools #southbendlathe @ David Lindow Clockmaker See more
The Commander Tapper power tapping head fitted to a Delta drill press tapping 1-72 threads. #lindowclockmaker #horology #clockmaking #deltadrillpress #commandertapper #metalworking #machinetools
Another atypical horological tool. The Commander Tapper power tapping head. See previous video of it in action. It turns clockwise as it goes down and goes ...into neutral when the feed stops. When the feed is reversed the direction changes. This can easily tap holes as small as 00-96 and as large as 5/16-18 or so. It was made to fit into a drawbar through the spindle and was matched to the Delta ram size. It is fast and efficient. The Delta drill press is admirably suited for the task as well with proper spindle speeds for fine and coarse thread pitches. #deltadrillpress #commandertapper #machinetools #clockmaking #lindowclockmaker #metalworking @ David Lindow Clockmaker See more
I use a South Bend mainspring winder? What brand is yours? Polishing pivots on the Derbyshire Elect. Mostly I’m actually deburring and polishing the ends as the shafts are turned on the Hardinge AHC to within .0005 an...d then burnished on the Hauser pivot polisher to within about .0002. I’m using a carbide burnished that is ground to a parallelogram. #lindowclockmaker #derbyshirelathe #derbyshireelectlathe #horology #clockmaking #lindowmachineworks #machinetools #metallathe See more
One of the great things about clockmaking is that it’s almost entirely a collaborative endeavor. Stephen L Franke’s picture here demonstrates it well. This is... a detail shot of the equation of time regulator dial and hands I had the privilege of helping him with. He cut the hands and did the blueing as well as finishing and silvering the plate. Valdemar Skov engraved it. Kathi Seiwert painted the moon wheel. I helped him lay it out and engine turned the power reserve window (on my rose engine with a straight line chuck). The coordination of such an endeavor alone is the work of a master and Steve has demonstrated this fact artfully and masterly. If you don’t follow his IG you should, also his FB page at Test of Time Horology. And since it’s. #horology #clockmaking #guilloche #engineturning #lindowclockmaker #testiftimehorology See more
I made the cover of a magazine. Miss Emily Lindow says, "No you didn't that's your clock;" however, I disagree. The painting was done by Kathi Seiwert, the case was done by Jeff Headley, and the animated see saw dial was originally designed with John Bartron.
