Post from 2010: 10 years in business today! . . . I entered a photo for a 2010 KMS Stylist Session Award of a cut and color last August, I won first! As excited as I was just with that award I had the opportunity to compete for the grand prize! I flew out to LA Last Saturday to take classes and compete for Grand Prize. I competed against 2 amazing stylist Kao from San Francisco and Rachel from New Hampshire. Check out the link: http://www.kmsstylistsearch.com/winner. In L...A we had to create a story board based on KMS California, individuality and what inspired us. We had to pick wardrobe and make-up and capture the entire feel of the photo tonal value and all. My inspiration was Palm trees, the free spirit of California, and I wanted to create an Organic look that represented me as a stylist. This was an editorial competition, which means what you would see in a magazine ad for KMS product line. As we all know my hair is constantly half dreaded naturally. I realized this look is never glamorized and looked at as dirty and un- kept. I felt that I could create locks on a model and make the sexy and desirable and that is exactly what I did. I had the great pleasure of learning from a world renowned stylist Edwin Johnston. On the day of the shoot my creative team consists of Hama Sanders, LA celebrity photographer and Patrick Foley, Hollywood celebrity make-up artist, and my beautiful model Becca Gunther who killed it on camera and helped me win the Grand prize.
