Mariposa Food Co-op condemns the Philadelphia Police Department’s use of deadly force in the killing of Walter Wallace, Jr., a Black man from West Philadelphia, father, husband, brother and son. We send our deepest condolences to his family and to every black family in Philadelphia, throughout this country, and worldwide, who has witnessed and suffered the loss of a loved one due to police brutality. Far too often have police officers hid behind the guise of fearing for thei...r lives to justify their actions in the murder of countless black and brown people. We demand justice for the life of Walter Wallace, Jr., who was so senselessly taken away; we demand that the police officers in question be held accountable for their action; and we demand defunding of the police so those monies and resources can be distributed to social services that help support healthy communities.
