October 21, 2020 Dear SDoL family, Citing a need to offer families an option for in-person instruction, our school board committed to proceed with our phased return of elementary students to the classroom over the next two weeks. Students in Pre-K, kindergarten, first and third grades will return the week of Oct. 26. Students in second, fourth and fifth grades will return the week of Nov 2.... The return dates for students in grades 6-12 are delayed. We will announce that date when it is confirmed. Please see our website for updated phases of return. Http://www.sdlancaster.org Most students will attend school two days per week (in uniforms)Monday and Tuesday or Thursday and Friday. Students will learn at home the other three days of the week. If you do not yet know your child’s cohort, you can find it in ParentVUE or by contacting your child’s school. Transportation information is also available in ParentVUE or on the homepage of our website. Students will notice changes to our usual practices when they return to school. These changes are intended to keep our students and staff safe. If you have not yet done so, please review the Back to School section of our website for more information on our health and safety protocols. If you are not yet comfortable sending your child to the classroom, even with these health and safety procedures, I encourage you to consider enrolling in our Cyber Pathways Academy. The Academy is a fully online replacement program, not a continuation of the virtual learning students are experiencing now. If you are interested in this option, please complete our interest form and begin the application process. Thank you again for your support. We are very pleased to welcome our students back into our schools! Sincerely, Damaris Rau, Ed.D. Superintendent of Schools School District of Lancaster

Email update from School District of Lancaster! Health Data; Meal Distribution; Virtual College and Career Fair; Virtual Tutoring; Section 1 Champs; PBS Programming (10/14/20) Health Data ... Due to an increase in the number of COVID-19 cases in Lancaster County, we postponed the phased-in return for school groups to Oct. 26 at the earliest. Our administration monitors local health data to determine the timing and pacing of our phased return to limited in-person instruction. We added a page to our website that outlines this data for families. We need the community to heed COVID-19 mitigation efforts like mask wearing. VIEW HEALTH DATA: https://sdlancaster.org/back-to-s/health-data-methodology/ A Note from Dr. Rau The School District of Lancaster is committed to making schools safe to reduce the spread of COVID-19. Brian Gill, lead researcher from Mathematica Research Group wrote: "There's no way any school can guarantee zero infections because school doesn't control what students, staff and families are doing outside of school. The question is, can you operate in a way that reduces the additional infections being spread in the school?" That is our goal as we navigate this challenging school year. SDoL Meal Distribution Meal distribution is offered for SDoL students on Wednesdays from 10-12:30 at J.P. McCaskey, Reynolds, Southeast, Carter & MacRae and Hamilton; and from 3-5 p.m. at J.P. Thank you to all that purchased 2nd Annual ER Martin Chicken BBQ Meals. An even Bigger thank you to those who gave money, donated items to fill the meals, or purchased meals to donate. These meals went to YWCA Residence Shelter, Milagro House and Clare House which are transitional housing for families in our School District. These donated meals also helped with the start of the Lancaster Moose Lodge 299 Community Action Committee where a focus is to help feed those less for...tunate living on the streets of our great city! They also cooked meals in addition and were able to give out 40 meals! Finally, a BIG Thank you to all that came out to help on the day of and behind the scenes preparing for the sale. There is a whole lot that goes into these sales and a lot of leg work to get to the point of sale. We are proud of our Mustangs and our community! #OneFamilyOneHerd #ERMartinMustangs

Mask Requirement October 9, 2020 The School District of Lancaster is committed to providing a safe and healthy learning environment for students, staff, parents and community stakeholders. ... The Governor and our School Board has mandated wearing a mask by staff and students when on the school bus, entering the school building, during school hours, and after school for school activities. Teachers and staff will model behaviors and teach the importance of the CDC guidelines including the reason mask wearing is an expectation. Mask breaks will be scheduled. However, consequences for non-compliance will be instituted, including suspension. If students do not comply, they will be subject to disciplinary measures as per our student code. A building administrator will address the non-compliance and a restorative conference will be held with student and parents/guardians, as necessary. IEP/504 meetings will be held to determine individual needs for students with IEPs or 504 plans as it relates to wearing a mask. The decisions will be made by the IEP/504 team. Written medical exemptions provided by a healthcare professional for students will be addressed by the certified school nurse with the coordination of the special education coordinator. Our ultimate goal is to keep students and staff safe while in our school buildings. We ask that you reinforce this message with your child so that we are able to bring all children back to school safely. Sincerely, Damaris Rau, Ed.D. Superintendent of Schools
