DO NOT FILE AMENDED RETURNS FOR UMEPLOYMENT EXCLUSION IMPORTANT FOR PEOPLE WHO HAVE ALREADY FILED THEIR TAX RETURNS FOR 2020:... IRS to Handle Unemployment Returns, Don't Amend Returns filed with unemployment benefits prior to the $10,200 exclusion should not be amended. The IRS has indicated it will refigure taxes on these returns and adjust the taxpayer's account accordingly. The IRS will then send any refund amount directly to the taxpayer. The IRS has not yet communicated a timeline for making adjustments and sending refunds.

It's official...the tax deadline is extended until May 17th. This INCLUDES payments, without penalties or interest.

Just a reminder for those of you who have EITC/ACTC related refunds and are waiting on refunds from the IRS: When will I get my refund? The IRS expects the earliest EITC/ACTC related refunds to be available in taxpayer bank accounts or debit cards starting February 27, 2019, if these taxpayers chose direct deposit and there are no other issues with their tax return.
The office will be closed February 20, 2019.
Standard Deduction or Itemize? The standard deduction for each filing status is: Single or married filing separately: $12,000, up from $6,350 in 2017 Married filing jointly or qualifying widow(er): $24,000, up from $12,700 in 2017 Head of household: $18,000, up from $9,350.... Most taxpayers have the choice of taking a standard deduction or itemizing. The Child Tax Credit is worth up to $2,000 per qualifying child. Increased from $1,000 in prior years. The age cut-off remains at 17 (the child must be under 17 at the end of the year for taxpayers to claim the credit).
