WEDNESDAY: MEET A MAKER! Konekt is a furniture and lighting design studio by mother and daughter design duo Helena Sultan and Natasha Sultan, intent on creating tactile pieces that engage the senses. With an emphasis on the unique, the collection embraces the imperfection and randomness found in natural materials, as well as the juxtaposition of contrasting textures, markings and finishes. Helena, who founded Konekt in 2015, is a former photographer and award-winning document...ary film maker, bringing her eye for composition and detail to furniture design. Natasha joined Konekt after working in contemporary and vintage jewelry, her interest in the sculptural form having extended itself to the larger scale of objects and furniture. The two present a multi-generational approach to design that has been cultivated through their own upbringings. @konektfurniture #meetamaker #makersofinstagram #moderndesign #interiordecor #furnituredesign #luxuryinterior #modernfurniture #femaleartist #homedecor #FDCmember #modernlighting #chaiselounge #homeinteriors #contemporaryfurniture #melissaandmillerinteriors #londondesigner #mainlinerealestate

WEDNESDAY: MEET A MAKER! When designing her NYC home, Nidhi Kapur looked everywhere for timeless, quality pieces. It was a search that left her frustrated. Unwilling to settle, she went straight to the source: North Carolina, where she found artisans crafting the incredible custom furniture she only dreamed of for her own home. She made it her mission to bring their story and craft to consumers everywhere. Maiden Home
WEDNESDAY: MEET A MAKER! Whirl & Whittle, founded by Pooja Pawaskar, designs wooden home goods that appreciate the beauty of imperfection and impermanence. Pooja's art is heavily influenced by wabi-sabi philosophy. Her background is in architecture and furniture design, a path inspired greatly by her grandfather, who worked making intricate wood molds for industrial factories in India when Pooja was a child. All of these elements have shaped her aesthetic sense and approach to design. @whirlandwhittle
WEDNESDAY: MEET A MAKER! Tomma Bloom is a multidisciplinary design studio based out of Boston, MA. Their work focuses on surface design, tufted art and object design as ways to reimagine folklore, legends and myths in contemporary design. The studio's creative practice is based upon visual and material research and the way it translates into surface through colors, textures and shapes, using textile design methods both as a visual language and as an object. WEDNESDAY: MEET A MAKER! Arianna Jones is a stylist-turned-artist and creative consultant focusing on fashion and travel. Her background is in contemporary art, apparel design and commercial photography. Arianna's first collection of stone and brass works on cotton rag paper are the culmination of mornings in COVID-19 confinement spent meditating along the Colorado River. She would arrange the stones as a daily creative practice and commit them to paper - all in a desire to capture those moments and headspace and bring it into her post-coronavirus world. Arianna also writes an online publication, Nuance, that explores sustainable style, meaningful travel and self-development.

WEDNESDAY: MEET A MAKER! Raina Lee is a writer and artist based in Los Angeles. She started as a journalist in the tech and video game industry, and decided to take a ceramics class in her Brooklyn neighborhood. From there, she was enthralled with the process. In clay, Raina experiments with alternative firings, textures and form, to create many beautiful, volcanic craters. And, to boot, she works out of a gorgeous treehouse. @rainjlee. WEDNESDAY: MEET A MAKER! Mafalda Vasconcelos uses art as a way of exploring her biracial identity and the different cultural influences in her life. Born in South Africa and raised in Mozambique, there is an evidence of African influence through Mafalda's work. Now residing in Melbourne, Mafalda continues to explore the female figure and soul, through a multicultural lens and with some fashion elements. The artworks she creates are based on souls rather than real human figures, representing ancestors from the Nharinga people of Mozambique.

WEDNESDAY: MEET A MAKER! Elyse Graham founded her eponymous studio, the Elyse Graham Studio, in Los Angeles in 2014. Since then, she's been interweaving art and design through her handmade sculptural works that are born through her experimentation of unusual materials, like plaster and resin. She creates beautiful vases and vessels, but didn't stop there - she's also translated her processes into wall mirrors and tables. @elyse_graham

WEDNESDAY: MEET A MAKER! Lisa Hunt is a Brooklyn-based artist and designer. Inspired by Art Deco, she uses graphic shapes, symbols and re-imagined typographic elements, all expressed with a minimalist approach. Her screen printed works on paper and canvas explore the spatial and meditative relationships found within repeat patterns. Hunt's work alludes to indigenous textiles and she employs an aesthetic use of gold leaf as a nod to its adorning use throughout art history as well as a comment on materialism and worth. @creativehunt

WEDNESDAY: MEET A MAKER! Tracie Hervy is a ceramicist who creates beautifully-simple pieces; their simplicity is not a final statement but a starting point. "My work functions in the world similarly to the Mason jar, in that it leaves space for your imagination," she tells Bloomist. In these pieces, Tracie says, "all the superfluities have been stripped away to reveal their essence." Tracie Hervy's education in ceramics began in the studios of the Greenwich House Pottery in NYC. She later studied at the Rhode Island School of Design where she received an MFA in ceramics. Tracie Hervy http://tracie-hervy-ceramics.com
Thank you for featuring our project in London.
At Melissa + Miller Interiors, we are taking a pause from social media to examine our allyship as it pertains to anti-racism. As white interior designers, how can we amplify the voices of people of color? How can we be in allyship with black artisans and makers? Let's examine our white purchasing power. How many of the chairs, tables, light fixtures, fabrics, wallpaper, accessories, piece of art that we install into our clients' beautiful homes come from people of color? How ...can we continue the dialogue, continue the work, and help to transform our industry? We look forward to strategizing with the Female Design Council tonight. It's up to us. As Shaun King always says, the system isn't broken. It was designed this way. Here are a small handful of many wonderful resources out there: From Privilege to Progress Shaun King @ibramxk @rachelcargyle The Opt-In Podcast Much love, Melissa + Miller Interiors
