Happy birthday to Dr. Elizabeth Blackwell, the first woman to receive a medical degree in the United States. Today we celebrate you, every female doctor who has paved the way since 1849, and the talented women physicians who are a part of the healthcare community today. As a Clinician, there's no better gift you can give your patients and families this holiday season than the gift of hospice. Giving them the gift of hospice means giving your patients time and support this Season. We are here for those who deserve, and qualify for hospice all year round, but during the holidays the gift of time is extra special.

If you find yourself in a store, you will see that holiday season is in full affect. Christmas music is on the radio, the toy section at Walmart takes up half the store, and neighbors houses are lighting up the night. However these things don’t cover up that fact that the Holiday season of 2020 is not going to feel the same for most of us. With large gatherings being cancelled due to COVID 19, there are no work holiday parties, and no friends gathering. Deeper than that, is a...t the core of holiday tradition is family. Families across this nation, spent Thanksgiving alone, or with much smaller groups that usual. More than likely we will be waking up to Christmas morning knowing we will only see our household that day. As thankful/ecstatic as we will be to count down that last few seconds of 2020, and bring in what we can only hope will be a better year, there will only be a few glasses to clink. Many people will be living the next few months without their support systems checking on them, without loved ones coming from out of town to visit. With many of our social interactions not happening this year, there is one way that people living with terminal illness can have some support whether it be in their home or in a care community. Hospice services can provide frequent visits from members of our caring interdisciplinary team. Memorial White Rose provides help with daily tasks from our compassionate aids, medical monitoring and interventions from our experienced and dedicated nurses, support from our social worker, spiritual care from our Chaplin, or something as simple as companionship and conversation provided by one of our Volunteers. We know we can’t replace the precious time with family. But what we can do is bring comfort; through actual live human to human interaction, pain and symptom management, and improve quality of life.
