We are absolutely elated to be chosen again for the #HeartsofGold program with Jake Guentzel of the Pittsburgh Penguins. We are looking for families to attend home games this year. Hearts of Gold Program Information Through the amazing program started by Jake Guentzel with the Pittsburgh Penguins, Mended Little Hearts of SWPA heart families will be selected via a drawing to attend home games for the remaining home games this season. ... To be eligible for the drawing: 1. You must be a registered member of Mended Little Hearts National organization through the SWPA group. Your family has not attended a game during the last #HeartsofGold program from the 2019-2020 season. 2. Four tickets are provided and a patient with a Congenital Heart Defect diagnosis must attend with the family members. 3. Email [email protected] with your families information including your heart warrior name, age and diagnosis and if there is a preference to a day of the week. **please note, we will do our best to match up family day preference but those able to attend any day may be matched faster** 4. Anybody attending that needs handicap seating we must know/submit information to the Pens at least 2 weeks in advance to the game the family is attending.

Living life when affected by a Congenital Heart Defect can often feel like a roller coaster- fun and free days living life to the fullest and some terribly difficult days. Today is one of those days. We are deeply saddened to say that one of our toughest warriors, Parker, gained his wings following complications after his open heart surgery yesterday. Our hearts are extremely heavy. Parker and his family have been members of our SWPA group for years, as they have attended many events and supported our group so much. They will always be our family. We are so lucky to have known Parker and been a part of his life. Parker was an active and passionate young man who loved playing golf and baseball. He was kind, a friend to many, and will be greatly missed. Please join us in supporting his family with love at this time.

Our Helpful Heart this week is Amy Weir who owns "Your Favorite Things" (an amazing store in Greensburg). She has supported our group for over 5 years now in so many ways. She always advertises for our events, lets us use her store as a drop off location for anything we do, participates in our annual toy drive, donates to our fundraising events, joins and sponsors our Heart Walk, and personally volunteers her time to help with our fundraising events, building items we purch...ase for Children's Hospital of Pittsburgh, and so much more! On this day in 1944, Vivien Thomas, Dr. Blalock, and Dr. Taussig, performed the first B-T shunt. This surgery has helped so may with Congenital Heart Disease, and we are so thankful for these medical pioneers! The movie, 'Something the Lord Made' is based off of these events.
