National Limerick Day is set on 12th May to mark the birthday of Edward Lear, the English writer known for his works of nonsensical prose and poetry. It was Edward Lear who was to popularize the Limerick in his A Book of Nonsense, published 1846. His limericks were popular then and this form of nonsense literature has managed to retain its appeal to this day. Limericks will normally have the first, second and final lines ending with the same rhyme, while the third and fourth shorter lines have their own rhyme.

When I have a little money, I buy books; and if I have any left, I buy food and clothes. Erasmus I love books. I adore everything about them. I love the feel of the pages on my fingertips. They are light enough to carry, yet so heavy with worlds and ideas. I love the sound of the pages flicking against my fingers. Print against fingerprints. Books make people quiet, yet they are so loud. Nnedi Okorafor Books were my pass to personal freedom.... Oprah Winfrey Sometimes, you read a book and it fills you with this weird evangelical zeal, and you become convinced that the shattered world will never be put back together unless and until all living humans read the book. Kindness Campaign GRAND PRIZE WINNER: Brad Gill, Lewisburg Pharmacy, Owner From his nominators:... Brad is the owner and lead pharmacist of Lewisburg Pharmacy and he is the absolute epitome of kindness and generosity. I have seen Brad absolutely bend over backwards for people, not just as far as their medications go, but in life as well. Brad works tirelessly to get people the best possible price on medications, personally delivers them after hours for extenuating circumstances, and will never let someone go without. I have seen him forgive outstanding bills for people having hard financial times and never expect anything in return. If one of his patients has a major life event, he sends them a personal note. Brad works so hard for his community, often featuring local small business owners in his store. Every month, he allows a different vendor in the store to sell their products, which are often benefiting local charities. Brad and his wife run a nonprofit for families who have lost their newborn children, called The Smallest Gift, based on their own child loss. This organization gives handmade and embroidered blankets and hearts that weigh what the baby weighed to the parents. They also work to buy special beds for hospital maternity wards so that mothers can spend more time with infants who have passed. I could go on for hours about the endless ways Brad is generous and kind. He is generous with his time, and he takes all the time a patient needs to have something explained or taught to them. He is generous financially to both his employees and the community. He is generous with his resources, knowledge, time, and heart. Brad is such an amazing asset to the community and the world around him. Anyone who comes into his life leaves a better person. Brad has gone above and beyond during the pandemic to protect his patients and his employees. I have personally witnessed this on a daily basis as one of his pharmacists. I think one of the most touching things was when I saw a box of food in the pharmacy office. He was sending non-perishable goods to patients he knew were having financial trouble. He also works with his church's food pantry on his day "off" (after coming in and working a few hours at the pharmacy to make sure we are ok) to provide with families in Central PA who are affected by hunger. I have been a pharmacist for 25 years this coming August and I can honestly say I have NEVER had an employer quite like Brad. He puts others before himself. It's not about profits for him, but about great quality healthcare, customer service, and taking care of those around him. For all that you do, thank you, Brad! Brad won $300 in local small business gift cards! Additionally, thanks to a private donor, we are happy to announce that we will be supporting Brad’s non-profit, The Smallest Gift, with a $2500 donation! Thank you to everyone for sending in your nominations. We wish we could have awarded everyone we will be sending a thank you, a t-shirt, and 'be kind' mask to all nominees. Thank you to Evangelical Community Hospital for sponsoring the Kindness Campaign! www.gsvuw.org/bekind #bekind2021

February is Black History Month. Do you know who Bessie Coleman was? Born to a family of sharecroppers in Texas, Coleman went into the cotton fields at a young age while also studying in a small segregated school. She went on to attend one term of college at Langston University. She developed an early interest in flying, but African Americans, Native Americans, and women had no flight training opportunities in the United States, so she saved up money and obtained sponsorships... to go to France for flight school. She then became a high-profile pilot in notoriously dangerous air shows in the United States. She was popularly known as Queen Bess and Brave Bessie, and she hoped to start a school for African-American fliers. Coleman died in a plane crash in 1926 while testing a new aircraft. Her pioneering role was an inspiration to early pilots and to the African-American and Native-American communities. Born January 26, 1892 Atlanta, Texas, U.S Died April 30, 1926 Jacksonville, Florida, U.S. #blackhistorymonth

Saw this in a Twitter feed today. Says a lot: When Charles Darwin made a list of the pros and cons of marriage, the pros included: "constant companion and a friend in old age... better than a dog anyhow." The cons: "less money for books" and "terrible loss of time."

Have been "toying" around with the idea of hosting some online PlayDough programs. Would any kids be interested in attending safe, secure Facebook Live events on days kids aren't in school (Act 80 Days, School Breaks, and heaven forbid, Snow Days)? We're thinking of required registration (to secure the event) and PlayDough packs kids would pick up before class. I'd love to try it. What would work for you? And do we have any PlayDough masters among us? Here's a link to an episode of one of my favorite podcasts, The Way I Heard It, that talks about An Incredible Reinvention. (Yes, it's related to PlayDough). Take a listen, I think you'll like it. ~JA https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=3-gVomThl_4

Hey! We're building up the Puzzle Exchange collection getting ready for colder weather. We added about 10 new puzzles today! Stop in to borrow one of our several jigsaw puzzles and/or donate a puzzle you've already put together. The Exchange helps us all recycle puzzles and trade for new ones at a low cost. We're especially looking for puzzles with larger pieces in the 300-750 piece range, as they are the most popular.... This article from CNN tells us why puzzles are a good source of family socializing during these hard times. https://www.cnn.com//puzzles-self-quarantine-co/index.html
