"I had the anti-reflective coating on my glasses but it scratched off. What can I do?". First of all, lets consider the inexpensive coating vs the better coatings. The less expensive coatings are subject to crazing (cracking) and scratching very easily. They peel and make it harder to see out of. The better coatings such as Crizal or Zeiss last for years and, if well handled, can last for the lifetime of your eyewear (2-3 yrs). The "cheap" coatings can scratch and craze within the first few months, whereas Crizal will last for years! Crizal does cost about $35-$45 more than the cheaper coatings but is certainly worth it in the long run. Ask for Crizal by name when you come in for your new glasses soon. We have some $50 off coupons out there for back to school specials, so it's like getting Crizal for FREE!!

Why should I have Ultraviolet protection in my new glasses? UV Protection is essensial for proper eye protection. UV is a radiation that gives you a sunburn. L...enses that are Polycarbonate already filter out 100% of UV waves. The same goes for Transitions brand lenses. All sunglasses should be UV protectant as well. Most of the time, you can choose any frame style for Rx sunglasses. We always recommend using polarized lenses for your Rx sunglasses. They give you the best correction from glare coming thru the lens and subsequently into your eyes. And yes, they protect you 100% from UV radiation! See more

Glasses for Infants and toddlers. First of all, children should have high impact polycarbonate lenses. You might want to consider getting Transitions lenses tha...t darken and lighten as they protect your child from dangerous UV Radiation. As far as the frames are concerned, a plastic frame with the wrap around cable temples are recommended.. They will do two things for your child. First of all, most infants and toddlers have flat bridges on their noses The cable temples will keep them up closer to their eyes. Secondly, they help keep them on when young children want to constantly take them off! If you choose a metal frame, be aware that there are sharper parts on the frame and the nose pads need replacing regularly. Also, if the frame breaks, sharp metal parts can injure your child. We have a great selection of frames for infants and toddlers from Pez, Jelly Bean and Modern Optical. Stop in when ever you like to check them out!! Maybe you will find a frame for yourself at the same time! See more

What should I expect when my child needs glasses? First of all, we need to choose a sturdy replaceable frame with high impact polycarbonate lenses. Frames are available with cable temples that wrap around your childs ears for infants and small children. Frames for older children can be made of either plastic or metal materials. Titanium or stainless steel frames are recommended for all children, except infants. Kids safe polycarbonate lenses have a minimum thickness of 2....0 mm's. Lenses are also availble with Transistions and anti-reflective coating. This is to protect your childs eyes at all times. Remember that your childs dress glasses are not approved for sports. Sports glasses are available for children for all sports activities (and no, they are not the ugly sports glasses from the 1970's, they are cool looking sports frames that your child will be happy to wear. These cost between $169.00 & $199.00 complete frames and lenses). Make your appointment soon to fill your child's prescription now before the back to school rush! See more

I am often asked "Can I get those Transitions lenses?" without the patient really knowing exactly what they are. Transistions are adjustable self tinting lenses that change from light to dark and back again depending on the direct suns radiation. They are often confused with Progressive lenses which are multifocal syle lenses that gradually change from your distant Rx to your near Rx. Both change, just in different ways. The original Transistions are vitually clear indoor...s and change darker with direct sunshine to between 60% to 85% darkness (depending on temperature). They take 1-2 minutes to lighten up when indoors again. They are available in both Grey and Brown. The original Transistions do not change in the car as the windows and the windsheild block out the direct sunlight. There is now the new Transitions Extra Active which do change in the car and cost only a few more dollars more than the original Transitions. Thay are about 5-10% tint indoors and 50-80% dark when activated. All Transitions protect you from 100% UV 400 and have scratch resistant coating built in. Transitions are available in a variety of lens styles from Single Vision, Bifocal, Trifocal, High Index, and High Impact Light Weight Polycarbonate. Feel free to ask me any other questions that you may have so as to facilitate the proper purchase of the right lenses for you and your lifesyle. See more

"What's up with those sports glasses?" I am asked this question all the time. Sports protective eyewear are an essential part of your equipment when playing spo...rts. In New Jersey, they are LEGALLY required for all children playing sports. They can NOT wear their street glasses during sports and are subject to fine and community service if their children are caught by the Attorney Generals office. The bottom line is don't wait till your child gets a serious eye injury to get him/her sports glasses. We carry Rec-Specs brand which are covered for protection for all different sports. We make them very affordable at between $169.00 and $199.00 complete frames and lenses. The frame is ansi /astm approved as well as the high impact polycarbonate lenses. If your child wears glasses full time, don.t wait till they are injured. Protect them now with Rec-Specs! See more

Why do we recommend polycarbonate lenses? Polycarbonate is approximately 30% thinner than regular plastic and about half the weight of plastic too. Polycarbonate is also safer than plastic as it is softer and flexes when hit by an object. For that reason we always use polycarbonate for childrens eyewear.Being softer usually means that it can scratch more easily. Todays technologies now have scratch resistant coatings for polycarbonate lenses that do not interfere with the impact resistance of the lens. The ultimate would be polycarbonate lenses with Anti-Reflective coating.
