The Millersburg Area Art Association would like to invite you to a class in American Sign Language (ASL), taught by Alyssa Arter. The program will be 90 minute classes every Sunday afternoon, and will run for 8 weeks beginning on Sunday June 20th at 2:00 PM. It is recommended that students be at least 15 years old, due to the amount of material covered each week and the need for note taking. Alyssa writes: ASL is a beautifully expressive language that utilizes hand gestures,... facial expressions, and yes, sounds to communicate. Early and enhanced communication with children, as well as connecting with those in the Deaf and Hard of Hearing community will make your life infinitely richer. I am excited to join you on an 8 week journey to learning American Sign Language! This class will be held in our upstairs classroom at the Gallery on the Square from 2:00-3:30 PM on Sundays June 20, 27; July 4, 11, 18, 25; August 1, 8. If a majority of students wish to, the July 4th class will be postponed and the program extended to include August 15 for the final class. Cost is $120 per student for an 8 week course. Students will be supplied textbooks, notepads, and pens to be used and kept by the students; supplies are included in the cost of the program. Just a reminder: 'The Art of Jacqui Whitcomb' is showing in the Romberger Gallery at the Ned Smith Center for Nature and Art until July 15th. If you haven't been out yet, it's a must-see! -------------------- After retiring from employment with the Pennsylvania House of Representatives, Jacqui turned her hobby of painting into a lucrative and enjoyable business, Whitcomb Designs. I’m not an art history student, nor am I very academic in my approach. As with many artists, t...rial and error has provided me with valuable lessons she quips. Over the years, she has taken a variety of classes from professional artists and values the variety of techniques, honing her skills. Jacqui has instructed private and group painting sessions on location at the Gallery on the Square in Millersburg, as well as a variety of clubs and private homes. In an effort to advance the adoption of rescue animals, artists in this group paint and donate portraits to a new owner of a rescue when adopted. You don’t want to miss this fun and educational class with Phoebe! ---------------------- The Millersburg Area Art Association recently announced a series of cla...sses, Summer Art Meet-ups for Adults and Teens. Enjoy the warm weather, and practice a variety of artistic skills in this twice-monthly class series with artist and educator Phoebe Heath. Each class session will meet in Riverfront Park near the swinging bridge. In case of inclement weather, class will meet at the Gallery on the Square. Students can expect to work with a different art material at each of the class sessions, including water-soluble graphite, chalk pastel, watercolor paint, and more. Students will be working from observation, honing this ever-important art skill through the practice of specific techniques and strategies. All materials will be provided on-site by the MAAA. Students may register for individual class sessions or register for the whole series now for a discounted price! Cost for class is $20 per class for members/ $25 for non-members; or $100/members $125/non-members for all six if you register by Wednesday June 16th. Pay for five, get the sixth class free! Time is running out! This 3 session Zoom class begins Monday. Message us today to register! ------------ The Millersburg Area Art Association would like to invite you to a 3 session Zoom class with artist and educator Phoebe Heath; Sculpting with Papier Mache. Classes will be held on three consecutive Mondays, December 14, 21, and 28, 5-6:30 PM via Zoom. Students who sign up will receive a link in advance. If they have never used Zoom before, they may want to test it ahead of... time. A 3 Part, Remote Papier Mache Class for Children and an Adult Partner. Students will learn the process of Papier-Mache sculpting using at-home materials. Each student will get to design their own unique sculpture showcasing their creativity using the techniques they have learned. Adult supervision is required for making the Papier-Mache and encouraged during the creative process. Adult partners are also welcome to join in the fun and create something alongside their student! Lesson 1 (90 minutes total): Planning and Preparing Lesson 2 (90 minutes total): Construction Lesson 3 (90 minutes total): Finishing Touches Materials: 1. Flour 2. Water 3. Sugar 4. Newspaper 5. This whimsical portrait of Turkey, man’s best friend, was painted by member Jacqui Whitcomb, and hangs on the wall at the Doglicious Spa and Wellness Center. Turkey has been living at the Humane Society of Lebanon County for a year now, and when he is adopted, this painting goes right along with him. Kudos to Jacqui and our other members, Karen Kratosky Spidle and Dawn Liddick, who also paint for this worthwhile cause.
