**Updated** Graduate assistants and graduate fellows, we've seen a lot of questions about the Penn State Student Health Insurance Plan (SHIP). Here is what you ...need to know right now. Penn State SHIP coverage began on August 10, 2017. Due to the change in health insurance provider, health insurance ID cards may not be mailed out until mid-October 2017. However, not having cards does not mean you do not have coverage. University Health Services and the Graduate School are working to resolves this issue. University Health Services has decided to hold all bills until October. You and your dependents can be seen by UHS without having ID cards; you can also have prescriptions filled at the UHS Pharmacy without ID cards. When visiting University Health Services, inform UHS that you are a graduate assistant or graduate fellow. At the UHS pharmacy, you will be asked to sign a form to confirm you are on an assistantship or fellowship and have selected the SHIP. You will NOT be asked to pay out of pocket for these expenses. If you or your dependents need to see a specialist or need to be seen at any provider other than UHS, including mental health providers, contact the UHS Student Health Insurance office so they can add you and/or your dependents to the health insurance system on an emergency basis. You can contact UHS at [email protected] or call (814) 865-7467. Please enroll your dependents prior to requesting an emergency add. The UHS Pharmacy has backed all the prescriptions off student Bursar accounts as of August 15, 2017. Students that picked up prescriptions prior to August 15, have been manually enrolled in the SHIP on an expedited/emergency basis.
