Happy Flag Day!
The library will be adhering to the following the guidelines: The Pennsylvania Department of Health acting Secretary Alison Beam announced that the state's mask order reflects the latest guidelines from the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention. According to the new guidance, fully vaccinated people can stop wearing masks outdoors in crowds and inside in most situations.... On March 16, the health department amended the commonwealth’s mask order by adding language directing to the CDC's guidance for fully vaccinated people to allow for no face coverings. That means Thursday's CDC guidelines automatically go into effect in Pennsylvania. The Department of Health says the masking requirement is still in effect for unvaccinated individuals until 70% of Pennsylvanians age 18 and older are fully vaccinated.

We reached a significant milestone today in the history of the City of Monessen. We have been serving the public for 85 years! Monessen Public Library opened their doors on May 1, 1936 in three rooms on the second floor of the Barker Building at the corner of Sixth and Donner. We have come a long way! The late Ruth Stern Schrag left us a description of that first library space in her recollections for the Greater Monessen Historical Society. "Many of the places I loved mo...st in my childhood were infused by the aroma of oiled wood. I recall climbing the steps to the second floor above Janosik’s Drug Store and entering the four book-filled rooms that made up Monessen’s first public library. I fell in love with books in that wonderful quiet retreat, sitting on the wooden floor, absorbing the magical adventures of Elsie Dinsmore along with the scent of the oiled wood and dusty books." As we celebrate 85 years, we hope you will visit us and see all the services we have to offer. As you have supported us for the past 85 years, we look forward to serving you and receiving your support for 85 more. Thank you for helping us reach this milestone! We couldn't have done it without you!
As per the Office of Commonwealth Libraries, libraries are not included in the "recreational facilities" category of the Governor's order, and therefore are not subject to the new restrictions. We will continue to be open scheduled hours, while practicing social distance and masking requirements to keep our staff and patrons safe. Patrons can still request curbside service if they are not comfortable with going into the library building.... Please let us know if you have any questions.
UPDATE: The library will continue to remain open to the public for the time being. All State Health Department and CDC guidelines are being followed as far as COVID-19 goes. Anyone entering the building MUST WEAR A MASK AT ALL TIMES!... Curbside service is still available for anyone who wants items but does not want to enter the building. Thank you for your cooperation!
Happy Thanksgiving to all!
