We have recently been notified that Bradford County is currently in a drought watch. The Department of Environmental Protection (DEP) is asking all consumers t...o reduce their water consumption by 5% to 10%, or 3-6 gallons of water per day. Yes, we have received some rain, but that most likely will not be enough to get us out of the watch. The county has been lucky that nobody's well has gone dry yet, but that could happen and has in the past. Here are some ways to reduce your water consumption: Run water only when necessary, shut it off when brushing your teeth or shaving, shorten your shower time, run dishwashers and washing machines with full loads. Water your outdoor plants in the evening or morning to help avoid evaporation. Before you throw that spaghetti or vegetable water down the drain, use it to water your plants, both indoors and outdoors. Just be sure that there is no bits or pieces of food left in the water. Check your plumbing for leaks, a leaking toilet can use up to 200 gallons of water per day. It may be wise to pick up some bottled water to have on hand just in case.
