Moop Shop 07.11.2020

Starting this Monday with a little more Lots of work to be done! On all fronts. Our focus right now is getting this small business through the rest of 2020. Keep small businesses like ours in mind as you plan out your upcoming holidays. It’s the most important time of year for most of us, and the detriments that this year caused makes it feel even more crucial than in years past. I’m also so grateful for all the support you’ve shown us, comments on yesterday’s post, email...s you’ve sent, DM’s....y’all are amazing. Thanks for being a part of all this. . . . MoopShop is a small business founded on principles of human rights. It has never pretended to be anything other. We are thrilled to see a return of intelligence in the White House and even more thrilled to see the first Black Female Vice President! This is a huge achievement that comes from hundreds of years of work for women’s rights, for black and brown women’s rights and for female representation in the highest seat of government. The work is not over, but we will celebrat...e the achievement. To those who have sent me ugly messages and comments and unfollowed us in response to yesterday’s celebratory post, you have not been paying attention. We have always been transparent in our celebration of equality. I am not a business ruled by corporatism. I am a small business fueled by my personal politic of inclusion, intelligence, hard work, women’s rights and racial equality. I do this through optimistic support of things and people I believe in. One great benefit of the 21st century is each of our abilities to choose how we spend our money. It is one of the few places we can make a direct impact on supporting the kind of world we want to live in. Small businesses provide the majority of jobs in the US. I will continue to contribute to those percentages via MoopShop, but I won’t chase you down if you don’t align with our ethics. Small business is inherently political. Our bags are inherently political. I built this business as an active response to sweatshop labor in the textile industry. It is founded on the philosophy that everything around us is handmade, it is just too often made by hands that are underpaid, undervalued and made to be invisible. The experience of coming into our storefront, makes the process of manufacture visible. We are there, making these bags, right in front of you. If 2020 had been managed any other way, you probably could still stop into our storefront and feel how magical it is in there. We’re hanging on in hopes of bringing that back. In the meantime, we are also aligning ourselves with ending this grim era of demonization in exchange for optimism, intelligence and hard work that helps to build better, more equitable futures.

Hello from inside our beautiful storefront! This pandemic and the current administration’s handling of it has caused me to make an inordinate amount of business shifts to ensure we stay in business. It has taught me a lot about priorities and ego and pride and value and work and ethics and quality and community and love and heartbreak and frustration and kindness and gratitude and keeping grounded in all the reasons I started doing this in the first place. We are living in 3r...d wave pandemic post election anxiety land over here but, being in this space, working with all the people I truly value and love, has made it feel like no matter the outcome, we will find our way through. Just as we’ve done with every challenge that has been placed before us. Our storefront looks worlds different than it did 8 months ago. But, we’ve done pretty well with what we’ve got and I love this place, I love what I do, and I have so much gratitude for the support you all continue to show us. It makes it possible for me to continue supporting more than a handful of jobs, to continue evolving what we do here and has opened some doorways we never would have ended up in otherwise. Work makes work. What a weird year. . . . . #moopshop #moopbags #democracy #growth #smallbusiness #womanowned #shopsmall See more
