Thanks to the Josephine and Evelyn Smith Foundation, we were able to make repairs and updates to our play run! We are so excited for our dogs who will get to enjoy this new run. It is #throwbackthursday today which means it’s time for a #happytails adoption story! This story comes from Boo and his forever family. Congratulations Boo! I still remember the day I met Boo (then Shadow) at Morris Animal Refuge. At first glance he seemed like a shy sleepy kitty, tucked in the corner of his little cubby. After a few gentle pets, he unraveled with generous purrs and promptly repositioned his entire body over my hand. He chose me that day, and since then he ...has brought boundless joy to me. These days, Boo is an energetic cuddlebug, purring machine, and headbutting feline friend who loves kneading soft blankets, meeting new human friends, and burrowing under the covers. He has stuck with me through thick and thin. He sat on my lap during my Zoom meetings, attended virtual research conferences with me, and welcomed my boyfriend (now fiancé!) warmly into the family. To anyone who is thinking of adopting a furry friend from Morris Animal Refuge, my advice is to just (schedule an appointment to) go say hello to all the furry friends there - and see who picks you. Congratulations to our HOWL-o-ween Costume Contest Winners! Best Overall went to crowd favorite Meatball dressed as spaghetti and meatballs, Best Philly Jawn went to Cat-paccino, and Best Team went to Henry and his mom dressed as Jafar and Iago (all pictured first)! Thank you to everyone who attended the costume contest event virtually and in person! We wish that we could include all of the entries from the contest this weekend in this post because every single costume was so... creative and adorable! Meet our pet (squad) of the week, the Auggie trio of sisters! These girls are about 3-4 months old, and are all young child and dog friendly. They are litter trained, eating hard food, and ready to come home to your loving arms! These three cuties are all FeLV positive which means they'll need special care throughout their lives to keep them healthy. She is always the first to enter any room, meet a new friend be they human or dog, and to tell her sisters that the coast is clear; they're safe! 2) Bandit (Auggie - Tuxedo), is so playful! She earned her name by being a toy thief, and in the playful ambushes she will pull on her sisters. She is so loving, and until she could no longer fit, insisted on being a shoulder percher on just just about anyone she could reach. 3) Shy Guy (Aspen - Light Tabby), is the biggest snuggle bug of the group. When picked up, she will begin to purr and cuddle almost immediately. Let's be honest, the cutest Halloween costumes are pet costumes! The Bourse and The Morris Animal Refuge invite Philadelphians and their furry friends to the food hall’s 5th st. patio for the ultimate fall fashion show, pet costume contest, and fall fest, Saturday October 24th from 1PM - 3PM! Tickets are $10 and include pet entry into the contest, a strut down the red carpet, plus one fall-themed photo of pets in their Howl-o-ween best. For those unable to attend the event bu...t would still like to participate, there is an option to submit photos virtually via Instagram or Facebook with the $10 virtual entry ticket! Virtual tickets are also great if you want to enter your cat into the contest.
