The Mt. Airy Art Garage (MAAG) invites you to our latest exhibit, Black Art Matters, an art show during the summer to honor the Black Lives Matter movement and the significance Juneteenth plays in our collective histories. This is a gallery exhibit to celebrate the Black experience: positive or painful, the struggles and triumphs, beautiful or brutally heart-wrenching. The Black Art Matters Opening Reception will be on June 19th, 2-5 PM. We will be serving light refreshments and hosting live music with the Passage Jazz Trio. MAAG continues to follow safety practices and requests that our guests wear masks. https://mtairyartgarage.org//black-art-matters-2021-summe/

Important COVID-19 Notice On Saturday, December 5, 2020, we were informed that someone at the Mt. Airy Art Garage (MAAG) has been exposed to COVID-19. Effective immediately, we are closing our building at 7054 Germantown Ave until Saturday, December 12, 2020. ... If you were at the MAAG building between November 30 and December 5, we encourage you to take preventive measures including getting a COVID-19 test and quarantining yourself for up to 10 days based on CDC guidelines. MAAG takes this seriously, and in turn we are taking the following steps: 1. Closing the building to everyone for a week after notice of the initial exposure. 2. The building will be aired out with the HVAC system running to disperse and remove as much COVID-19 from the air as possible. 3. Any and all communal surfaces in the building will be cleaned thoroughly. 4. We are alerting as many people as possible who came into the building about the situation. MAAG is dedicated to helping artists all across Philadelphia, and that includes protecting their health and well being. We look forward to reopening soon and as safely as possible. Thank you. - The Mt. Airy Art Garage

Dear Members and Friends of the Mt. Airy Art Garage (MAAG), After many starts and hold ups, our new home at 7054/7056 Germantown Avenue will open in the Fall. The space is 6,500 square feet with galleries, studios, a classroom, kitchen, and event space. We can once again create a multifaceted arts hub to house the creativity bursting from artists and students in Northwest Philadelphia. Some uses for the space will be:... - Individual and shared studio spaces - Clubs, classes, artist meetings (both online & in person) - Fine art and handcraft galleries for individual & group exhibits (online & in person) - Longer hours for visitors to shop & browse - Online shopping When we can safely open to the public, following guidelines from the CDC, the Commonwealth of Pennsylvania, and the City of Philadelphia, we will resume performances of music, theater, poetry, films, dances, and rental spaces for events. During the shutdown, it was heartening to see how many new members joined and the number of devoted members who renewed their memberships. We also received donations and grants, which have kept MAAG going. Now is the time to build on this organization, to bring the skills and energy from our resourceful community. We are looking for teachers, group leaders, gallery volunteers, artists to rent studios, and Board members (especially experts in business, finance, and marketing to share their knowledge). We know you are out there and we look forward to hearing from you! Board of Directors Arleen Olshan, President Patricia Smith, Vice President Mary Ann Domanska, Secretary Elayne Bender Rick Hock Nicki Toizer Larry West

The first day of the 2020-21 school year has changed (it's now Wednesday September 2nd, and fully online), but we're still gonna roll out a Mt. Airy Schools hig...hlight every Monday until then. This week, we shine a light on EMLEN. Principal Tammy Thomas is a Go Mt. Airy star, Mt Airy Art Garage gets some love for the Community of Pride murals they do with the kids, and secretary Theresa Logan leaves us with the timely wisdom: "If we don’t work as a team, all this falls by the wayside." Teamwork makes the dream work at Emlen, #2 out of our 6 videos. Mt. Airy CDC thanks its Mt. Airy Schools Coalition collaborators East Mt. Airy Neighbors (EMAN) and West Mt. Airy Neighbors (WMAN), and as always, extra thanks to Green District Media for the production.
