Curator Anna Dhody didn't understand why the construction workers kept saying "they moved the headstones but they didn't move the bodies!" while recovering burials at 2nd & Arch - because she has never seen the 1982 classic "Poltergeist"! Join us for a Science on Tap Netflix Party to hear Anna's first impressions in light of her cemetery recovery work! http://muttr.org/SOTnetflix

In the coming months, we hope to incorporate the voices of individuals who were sustained by an Iron Lung, or whose loved ones passed an account of their time spent in one. If you or someone you know has a story to share about being sustained by an Iron Lung, please fill out our survey here to add your voice to the exhibition: http://muttr.org/IronLungStories

Today is Indigenous People's day, AND the most fatal day for Spanish Flu in Philadelphia. Did you know that we have an unnamed Iñupiat woman to thank for the identification of the 1918 strain as an H1N1 virus? Alaskan native communities were hard hit by the flu, & in the 1990s tribal authorities gave scientists permission to exhume and sample well-preserved remains buried in the permafrost. In the community the Iñupait woman lived & died in in 1918, 72/80 residents were kille...d by the flu. . . . . Photo via Internet Archive Book Images on Flickr. See more
